Ok, I'm diving in!

Been in a slump for a couple of years but when the grandkids came we decided to do this.

I lost a 5month old granddaughter 2 years ago and her brother and sisters and I decided to take some old glass pieces that I aquired from an antique shop years ago along with some odds and ends and create this for Aaliyah's little flower bed in the back yard.

It is not quite finished and we are not sure if it will be a totem base or a birdbath base.(that is what it is).

Kinda messy, but the kids had a great time.

We hope to finish this summer when they come for a visit.

So sorry for your loss. What a wonderful memorial for you and the kids to make. Something to make you smile through tears of sorrow. I really like the handle on it...cool!

How sweet. I'm sure those kids will treasure that memory with you. I can't imagine what you have been through but I hope it helps ease the pain. It'll look beautiful in a garden! Have you grouted yet?

Hey Judi, Welcome y'all! If you haven't guessed, we're in Texas. You will learn, love and laugh in this forum. I just finished priming the trim in our kitchen--not a remodel so much as a redecorating, but work nonetheless. However, a good kitchen usually reflects a good cook, and I'm sure your kitchen is going to be superb! I have a sister in S. Illinois, and we are in back of nowhere ourselves (in fact, we have to drive about 10 miles to get to nowhere) but making do with what you've got is the mark of a great cook. Check out some of the other forums--kitchen, recipe exchange, money saving tips, vegetable gardening, herbs etc.--and post any questions or comments you have. Your input will be welcome!

Chiming in to say I don't pre-wash my pre-cuts, and I've never had a shrinkage issue. Love that quilt, Valarie! I have some Kaffe Fassett 6" squares I purchased a couple of years back, and now I know what to do with them. Be sure to keep us posted on your pre-cut progress, Rita! Funny Sidenote: In my head, I always read his name & pronounced it "Coffee Faucet." When I heard someone in a video introduce him, I smacked myself. ;) It still takes me a moment to adjust and pronounce it correctly (first name one syllable with long a; last name rhymes with 'bassett'). Anyone else butcher up his name the first time you read it? :)

Yes, I don't mind if the dry season is dry, which is where we're supposed to be now. But we had rain all winter till a couple of weeks ago and after a week of heavy rain with no time to dry out, the ground is totally saturated here already. We've had flooding inland in spots where it never floods. So if we continue to have so much rain and then get a wet storm, we'll be in trouble in this area. I live on the Treasure Coast and over the past years the daily afternoon rain storms of summer and early fall have slowly been disappearing I live on Hutchinson Island and I'd say they've been shifting. We've had much, much more rain out here the past few years than used to be normal. ETA And I don't get the people who say lots of rain = no hurricane. It's rained like heck the past two years and Matthew, Irma.

My son, daughter-in-law, and DILs father came to visit us at our cabin in the mountains on March 12th. The news at the time was meh on the virus impact. Within the weekend the seriousness became apparent. As my DILs father is high risk due to recent heart surgery, and both son and DILs offices had gone to working from home they decided it was safer to stay here rather than go back to Atlanta. They have been here since! Then my daughter’s school cancelled classes and shut down dorms so she came up. Plus all of their pets. So I have 6 adults, 10 dogs, 2 cats and 8 chickens at my house! We have been cooking and cleaning constantly. Thankfully the local towns of Blue Ridge and Ellijay put out a bulletin showing which restaurants are still open via curbside service. We have been making an effort to buy from at least one restaurant per week, sometimes 2. We are lucky in that the 3 “kids” are still working remotely for now at least. I am the only one still working outside the house, and am actually doing tons of overtime. I come home and go through the back entrance into my bedroom, get right in the shower and put my clothes in the wash. It’s been a bit of a grind doing this every day but in the scheme of things it’s doable. We will endure and continue as long as takes, but I’m hoping and hoping for more testing plus a vaccine as soon as possible! I consider us lucky in that we can all live together pretty harmoniously. Both of my kids have friends who don’t get along with their parents well enough to be able to stay with them for any length of time, which I find so odd. I will miss them terribly when they go back to their lives. I know I will look back on this time with gratitude that we got to be together and enjoy at least that. It is funny in the morning when we are all trying to get coffee and the kids all set up their laptops and put in their earbuds to start working. In the evenings when I’m home we make cocktails and snacks and do a movie night. So far our biggest issue has been laundry as we have a pretty small w/d right now. We were planning on upgrading just hadn’t gotten around to it yet.

So sorry for the loss of your grandaughter, texasfern. What a wonderful tribute and idea for her siblings to remember her by doing a piece of mosiac. It looks like a candy ice cream sundae and good enough to eat.

You do wonderful mosaics and I hope you can find some solace in your art again. I've been through some rough times over the last several years and if hadn't had my ceramics I don't know what I would have done. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Oh Texasfern. I am so sorry to hear about your loss but that is a wonderful way to memoralize her plus give the kids something they can do to remember her , too.

It's perfect. You will all treasure it forever.

By the way, you have done some wonderful mosaics. I love the snails best but actually it's hard to decide. Those funky VI folks were great too.

I think that will be an excellent addition to her garden. I cant imagine what youve gone through losing a baby that way. I know that giving the kids a way to express themselves will deffinatly do a world of good becaus they dont always know how to put thier feelings into words.

Thanks so much.
I spent yesterday pulling all the ceramic molds I have left in preparation to sell them and my kiln.
I am going to concentrate on the mosaics and T2T.
I definately feel that this is a new start of sorts.
I don't plan on finishing the piece until the kids come in a couple of weeks.
Grouting is not my favorite part and after all what they start, they need to finish! LOL!

Bless your heart. Sorry for your loss. I so admire this piece. The glass looks so lucious. What a beautiful memorial piece. Gives me inspiration to be looking for colorful glass along w/the plates now. Anxious to see your piece finished.
