washing latex foam pillows
Comments (9)Do not understand the red color, but you should never use chlorine on latex. There is a chemical reaction that will cause the latex to beciome brittle, and crumble. It is possible that your pillow had clay added to latex, but usually the additives are grey clay, not red. (They add clay to extend the latex, and bring the cost down). Several other points. Never wash a feather or down pillow. While the material is washable, it degrades with heat or sunlight. The material is too dense to effectively air dry, and mildew will result. As for the polyester pillow that "lumped" it was no doubt a non siliconized fiber. (very cheap) When drying a polyester pillow, the more heat the better. The heat actually restores the fiber to their original thickness. Dry with a tennis shoe in the dryer. As for those old latex pillows, the sole US manufacturer of latex pillows had their factory blow up several years ago in Shelton CT. No one else makes them in the US because the molds cost almost 1 million to make. The only supplier left around is Dunlop in England. Due to prohibitive freight costs, it is rare to find in the US. finally never allow a latex pillow near any heat or ignition point. They catch on fire quickly,...See MoreJust got a queen Natura Ultimate Talalay Latex Pillow for $81.79
Comments (67)amck, the Natura pillows are Canadian sizes, so they're different from American standard and queen size pillows. The standard Natura is quite small. I have the standard because I ordered it first because I like American standard pillows better than queen, but it was so small, like a kid's pillow, so I have that on the sofa and I ordered a queen for the bed. I think everyone here who bought Naturas got the queen size. You'll need queen cases for it as well. The standards will be much too small....See MoreTalk to me about bedding, please
Comments (24)I also have the St. Dormeir wool pad. You can wash it (though I haven't yet), but it would not protect the mattress from seepage if a kid has an accident. As far as pillows, they are the hardest thing to recommend to someone else because preferences vary so greatly. When we bought our latex mattress, I tested the various latex pillows at the store and could not find one with the right loft. I ended up with a shredded latex pillow, which worked well for me because I could remove the amount of latex necessary to make the pillow work for me. I now love it so much I bought one for my mom, since I was sure she'd love it, too. And she could not have hated it more. So now I have 2 nice shredded latex pillows! My recommendation for pillows is to go to a good bedding store and try them all out. Listening to people's recommendations online is likely to result in your spending good money on something that doesn't work for you....See MoreNatura Pillows
Comments (27)The ones at bbb are talalay latex and they are good quality mine have held up very very well. For the difference in price I will definitely go with them. I did buy the king size ones and I did buy the claritin zipper covers for them because I have bought those before and like them. The zipper cover that comes on them is fine, 100% cotton, I just like the other better. In general if they are the solid latex with the little holes in them they are going to be talalay latex or a mix of that and dunlop which is also ok. But I did research the actual manufacturer of those at bbb and found their info. I however have since totally forgotten who it was lol. Slept since then. Some info about latex "So what exactly is the difference between Talalay latex and Dunlop latex? And this is in some ways the wrong question to ask. Both are different methods for preparing latex – not different “types” of latex. In other words, you can take the same source of latex and produce either Dunlop or Talalay from that source, depending on the method. A much better question to ask is “Is the latex you use in your mattresses 100% natural?” A common misconception is that Dunlop is the ‘natural’ latex, and ‘talalay’ is synthetic latex. Not entirely true. Because both methods can either be 100% naturally derived, a blend of natural and synthetic materials, or all synthetic (a man-made copy of natural latex.) The reality is that neither is superior to the other. They’re just different methods. Dunlop tends to be denser, which makes it slightly firmer than Talalay. Talalay creates a more pillowy-soft feel. Both are great and work very well, and tend to work very well together, such as when using a Dunlop bottom layer and a Talalay top layer."
