washing latex foam pillows
Comments (9)Do not understand the red color, but you should never use chlorine on latex. There is a chemical reaction that will cause the latex to beciome brittle, and crumble. It is possible that your pillow had clay added to latex, but usually the additives are grey clay, not red. (They add clay to extend the latex, and bring the cost down). Several other points. Never wash a feather or down pillow. While the material is washable, it degrades with heat or sunlight. The material is too dense to effectively air dry, and mildew will result. As for the polyester pillow that "lumped" it was no doubt a non siliconized fiber. (very cheap) When drying a polyester pillow, the more heat the better. The heat actually restores the fiber to their original thickness. Dry with a tennis shoe in the dryer. As for those old latex pillows, the sole US manufacturer of latex pillows had their factory blow up several years ago in Shelton CT. No one else makes them in the US because the molds cost almost 1 million to make. The only supplier left around is Dunlop in England. Due to prohibitive freight costs, it is rare to find in the US. finally never allow a latex pillow near any heat or ignition point. They catch on fire quickly,...See MoreReplace my softside water bed with another or get latex?
Comments (40)Sure, we got ours at Sleepez.com, linked below to the page of the closest match to ours, 100% Natural Talaylay queen, split w/3 layers. They ship from Arizona and it was delivered in 2 boxes. We chose to swap out one of the layers to make my husbands side a bit more firm and they did everything they promised they would and were extremely nice about it. The owner returned calls promptly and over all, we had a really good experience with the company. Pros: It's organic and environmentally friendly, the latex is imported but moulded in the US. Customizable to meet each persons firmness needs. Long life span. Resistent to dust mites. Cons: Depending on someones sleep pattern the layers can shift a little and may occassionally need to be realigned. Note: The return policy has changed some since we bought ours, be sure you read it as it may be something to consider. After years of buying one pillow top mattress after another with the same terrible results, we were desparate to find something that would accomodate both of us (we have very different sleeping needs) and this has been the perfect option. I doubt with the life span of these we will ever need to buy a whole new mattress again. Granted, it's not for everyone but... Comments (5)I have also gotten conflicting advice, similar to what you have heard. I'm no expert, but I'll tell you what I ended up doing which seemed to work out pretty well, at least so far. We bought a ~100 year old home six months ago that we're just getting around to painting now, after rewiring. Most of the trim is painted with what seems to be a high gloss oil-based paint, and a much of it (especially doors and baseboards) is quite dirty. The only trim I've painted over so far is a few doors, but I'll be starting on the rest of the trim in a couple weeks. For the doors, I scraped off just whatever bits were already flaking off, then washed them really well, and then used "liquid sandpaper". If your trim is glossy you may want to use liquid sandpaper to remove the gloss. It's not a paint stripper, so you won't be left with messy globs of dissolved paint. It just removes some of the sheen so that the new layers bond to it better. Then I primed with an oil-based primer. I have used both latex and oil primers in a previous home, and the oil primers always seem to bond better. Then painted with Regal Select Semi Gloss. I haven't tried Natura, but I might... Anyway, I would recommend liquid sandpaper rather than sanding as long as the old paint is basically well-bonded to the trim, then oil-based primer, than latex paint. I'm curious what suggestions other people have.....See MoreSince we're the on the subjects of bed sizes....
Comments (41)Well, we wound up exchanging it for a softer model, the Prodigy which cost $200.00 more each (hubby went ahead and changed his too) plus a hundred dollar return fee. It's a dream to sleep on, so it was completely worth it. We've had this replacement for two months now. After a week in the Savant, I could barely get out of the bed I was in so much pain. I have neck and upper back problems, so instead of waiting the 30 days they strongly suggest, we went back to the store. When I walked in, I couldn't even stand up straight. After discussing my needs to the sales lady, I laid on the Prodigy for a full half hour and walked upright out of the store after ordering a replacement. I'd have fallen asleep had the sales lady and my hubby not been talking and her asking how I felt now and then. I wound up cutting down our queen size 3" memory foam topper to fit the twin so I could sleep the week that it took to get the replacement. I love the Prodigy, and highly recommend that you buy from a place where you have the time to lay on it for fifteen minutes to a half hour before decided which one to buy. I have absolutely NO concept of time so I have no clue how long we laid before buying the first time. I timed it the second go round to make sure....See MoreRelated Professionals
