Laptop won't pass starting window screen
Comments (5)Thank you so much for all of your inputs. I took out the battery as suggested, it did not work. Powered on with/without docking station, it did not work. Went to work called the IT support team. First tried the "tapping F8 key" just as Mikie suggested, got into Start Options menu, picked "Last use good configuration" or something like that. Once computer finished the steps, repowered it on, but the power up still could not pass the "starting window" screen. Then tried the "tapping F12 key". I had to start tapping the F12 key as soon as push the power on botton. Finally get into the start options menu, picked "diagnostic". It ran a lengthy testing for about 30 minutes. The results showed error code 2000-0142, msg 6142 status 79. Tech support person said the hard drive was bad. The rest of the testing on memory and CPU...etc. showed no problem. I am waiting for IT to install new hard drive and port old data. I only hope that the data I did not back up would be preserved....See MoreWindows won't start

Comments (1)It is possible that your setting (low to mid 60's) is causing the coil to freeze, and shutting down on safety. This could explain why the unit needs to 'rest' for 40 minutes, in order for the ice to melt. Leaving your window open at night allows the night time humidity to infiltrate your apt. Leaving the a/c off all day allows the heat to build up. Both heat and humidity put a burden on your a/c which has to be satisfied before you feel comfortable. Being that your apt is 550 sq ft, the unit could be oversized which will result in frequent short cycling (less humidity removal). Try minimizing opening of your windows at night (unless outside humidity is low) and leaving your a/c on while away, although at a higher setting. You need to experiment. Comments (6)I am with you!!! My move is 25 days away. For the past month, I too have decorated, moved furniture, hung artwork, arranged everything in the kitchen drawers, cabinets and pantry. I imagine myself walking in the front door and what I will see as I progress through the house. Oh, and also what I will view through the windows. This is new construction, so there is dirt and a to-be-built retaining wall outside. I imagine myself cooking and the steps I will take, and the direction to turn reaching for things. Over the top OCD, to be sure. But, such fun too. This is my 6th house to build - the absolute last, a two bedroom retirement patio home. But what is life if not to plan and dream and imagine? This SHOULD be exciting and fun... and so what if you cannot sleep. It is just for now. I tried thinking of other things, but the house creeps in. I tried stupidly counting sheep, but the house creeps in. So I just go with it. At least I doze some and wake up with a smile, despite the yawns and red eyes......See Moremillworkman
