Buying new sink today, wish I was getting counters too :(

Faucet bit the dust last night, totally gone. I had bought a Moen one on clearance a long time ago while waiting for the money for new counters. Well the faucet broke and new Moen doesn't fit sink which is fine by me because I hated the acrylic sink anyway. ~ Just disappointed that I cannot get the quartz counters I had planned on. College bills, medical bills, ect. took that budget. Please forgive my self-pity today, totally unjustified because I really am blessed in sooooooo many ways.

I know exactly where you are, but your time will come!! I lived with builder grade junk for 28 years----stay at home mom for 12 years...then worked part time for 8 years which basically paid for daughter's sport, then went full time to put 3 kids through college (4 years with two at the same time). Two years ago we did the master bath---the kitchen plus new FR furniture, wood floors, etc. this past year. Hang in there!

Thanks Joanie (great name by the way!) Your life sounds like my life. I've been a stay at home Mom, work part time, a kid in college and also paying for my daughter's tournament softball. Also have another teenager. I just want to be able to enjoy the counters. I don't want to put them in before moving some day for somebody else...

To satisfy any who have a compulsive need to know about my mower maintenance situation, I do have a shop 40 by 100, built mostly by my hands with lumber from trees that I harvested and hauled to the sawmill. The shop has stick, MIG and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, a plasma cutter, a 16 gauge 4" brake, a vertical mill and a metal lathe plus an 80 gallon, two-stage 5 hp air compressor. The larger door is 14' high and 20' wide. I have never had any mower repairs done outside my shop nor by others. Just occasionally I will do some mower repairs for others. No need to list the Bobcat skidsteer loader, farm tractors and dump truck plus the woodworking equipment and 6 working chain saws. So if that resolves that issue, there are other matters of importance to me The terrain in this area is not flat! My yard is contoured to direct surface water away from the house. My AYP Craftsman mower from 2008 was not originally suitable for my terrain due to the seat switch which required that I be firmly seated precisely in the center of the seat with no weight shifting allowed. It was necessary to fashion a wooden piece to keep the seat switch depressed to use the mower at my premises. Removal of the wood restores the switch original function. Weather has prevented use of the new Husqvarna, but it is assumed that the same sort of seat switch attention will be required. How have any of you dealt with the seat switch on the latest AYP mowers? My previous mowers had switches that the seat assembly depressed. Thus down pressure on the seat would keep the switch closed, even if one was sitting nearer one edge of the seat.

Just a follow up with a picture since I always appreciate that as a poster. I wouldn't have done this without the knowledge gained from this forum! This is the new Delta Trinsic installed in my old sink. It is not the "touch" version. Looks good! Ignore the huge compost bucket on the counter. Makes me want to pull out everything now. Did have to use the expensive escutcheon and DH was able to pull out the useless hot water dispenser so we now have a soap dispenser (with a NeverMT, another awesome tip from the forum). Note on the function: works great with our less than good pressure. The switch from spray to stream stays where you left it when you turn on and off the faucet which I know is important to some people. Seems very solid and the pull down snaps in with the magnet with no dangling. Note on splash: it IS splashy in my less than 7" sink, but it is not nearly as bad as I feared. Totally worth it for the improved clearance with the high arc. When on, water goes straight down my centered drain. Note on the finish: "Artic Stainless" is great looking, coordinates well with my KitchenAid dishwasher and Whirpool Sidekick Fridge, not too shiny and not overly brushed either. Was able to track down the air cap in the same finish at Amazon. There IS spotting from water and fingerprints, so if that annoys you be aware, but it wipes away easily.

Go for it! I have used vintage enamel sinks in the past and will be using one again in my own upcoming remodel. You do need to ensure that the drain size is appropriate for whatever you want to do with it (can it accommodate a modern disposal? Some old ones can, some are 1/2" too small). Have them shoot you a close-up with a ruler. I *think* the exact size is 3.4" - 4" for a disposal, but do google to double-check. In terms of a faucet, they still make nice adjustable-width laundry sink faucets precisely for these sinks (Chicago Faucets is a great source for solid ones that look just like their predecessors), so you can accept a fairly broad range of backsplash holes from 6" to 10". The gloss level is also a good question for follow-up. Get more photos from different angles with light or a flash on it. Dull isn't bad, per se, but it's true that the duller it is the more easily it will stain in the future. Not that you can't keep re-scrubbing it, but it's a factor. One thing is certainly true: there are more of these sinks out there, even this exact model, if you pass this one up. I've seen yours go by a number of times in various venues, like eBay. Have you checked out This Old Tub and Sink? They are awesome and Kevin will take excellent care of you. Slightly pricey but he vets his sinks and tubs very well. I just bought a single deep basin drop-in from him and am very pleased with it. Link to the site below. Davidro-lol, so true! I actually thought this morning when I saw the dirty dishes that my kids and DH had so kindly stacked in the sink for me, "And why exactly did I want a larger one?" Jilljohn-But at least you have the other half of the sink to use! But it's okay...I'm slowly getting used to it. A 9" sink? I'm trying to picture that! I don't really think that is something that buyers notice when touring homes, so hopefully you won't have to replace it. I think we're going to keep it. I do now have a garbage disposal where I did not before, so I'm pretty pleased with that. :)

Yes, hang in there, joanie38. Your situation is probably the norm - reno & decorating in dribs & drabs as money permits. College & medical bills are more important anyway.

Hope you enjoy your new faucet & sink and that you'll post pics so we can ooh & ahh over it :)

Many of my decorating dreams have taken 10 years or more to come into being, & some never came to pass. No regrets, though. Our sons & their friends have told us how happy & comfortable they were in our home, back in the builder's grade/shabby un-chic days. That's better than all the decor money can buy.

I think it is very exciting that you are getting a new sink! I keep saying I am going to replace ours (bought this place 16 years ago), but then, I thought I should wait for counters, but if I am going to do counters, I really should replace the cabinets, but if I do that, the floor definitely needs to be replaced..you know, if you give a moose a muffin...

So, I say, enjoy that new sink and faucet! I am jealous. ;)

Thanks everybody. Yes it is exactly like giving a moose a muffin. If I got new counters, I would need a backsplash. I just feel that deep down by not getting them now I will NEVER get them. Oh well. It's not important, really. My home is comfortable and nice, and my family is comfy here. That is what is most important.
Side note: Hubby works late every night but 15 year old will be home after school. He likes to figure things out. I'm hoping to entice him to installing it for me. I think he can do it, and a little money would really motivate him. We will see...

I gave my moose a muffin and he turned it into a smorgasbord. My wallet may never recover but I will be 60 next month and figured if God blesses me with another 15 to 20 years I wanted it to be in a new kitchen. I do wish I had done this a few years earlier so I had more time to enjoy it but like you it was always another slice of life that got in the way.

Good luck with your new sink and faucet. Someday you will get your beautiful new kitchen and in the interim you are blessed with a great attitude and a warm, loving family home.
