Ack! Hole cut too large in granite for my prep sink!
Comments (14)Wow. Not good. Going through something similar right now. Wife and I are redoing the master bath. Using a company I have dealt with for years and know well. 2 Kohler 2882 rectangle sinks. Cutout should be 17 x 12 9/16 and they cut 17 x 13. No lip overhang on front and back and you can see the gap underneath. Waiting on template because they evidently didn't use the one you download from Kohler. Had a long talk with their head guy and he suggests bigger sinks which is ok if we can find one. Other option is he said has no money in it and would consider refunding my money and ending the deal instead of basically paying me and putting in a new top. Seriously? I did not cut it out, they had the sink to go by and we are not happy with how it looks. I have been building cabinets for 30 years in high end homes and if I make a mistake (which rarely happens because I am meticulous on dimension taking) I build it over and fix it. Not happy right now with what is developing but will know more hopefully in a day or so when they see the Kohler template in person....See MoreGranite sink opening too small...options?
Comments (3)"They were given the template and offered the whole sink when they came to measure." And either they chose not to use it, or they used it and screwed it up. Call them and tell them that the counter cutting does not match the template they were given and ad a result the sink is not usable the way it should be. Have them take the slab off and recut and repolish the sink opening....See MoreOh no sink base too small for farmhouse sink
Comments (11)Most farmhouse sinks require a special cabinet with shortened doors like in the picture above. If you have the special sink base cabinet - no problem. For remodels that are keeping the cabinets like I did, Kohler makes two apron front sinks in a "short apron" style which can be installed on a standard sink base. The shorter apron does not interfere with the doors on a standard cabinet sink base. Mine is in my "my pics" idea book. If you are using your old cabinets, make sure you ordered the "short apron" style of the Whitehaven. If you are getting new cabinets and specified a sink base for a farmhouse sink, order the standard Whitehaven which has the longer apron front - I think 9 inches rather than the short apron which is 7 inches. (I think those are the dimensions.)...See MoreDeath by 1000 cuts? Are these imperfections too small for complaints?
Comments (3)As both have mentioned, the off-centre (by 6mm) light is not a deal breaker. If you MUST have it centred, go ahead and tell the installers you want it all taken down and done again - which you will PAY for. See if they have a valid excuse (like a stud) for the slight (6mm is NOTHING in the grand scheme of things) off-set. If you feel you wish to spend several hundred dollars for the 6mm (let's pretend it will cost $100 for each mm) for the exact placement. As your HUSBAND if that is something he is willing to pay for. Because you are in it together. As for the tiling, I don't worry about the 'look' of things until the space is finished, the baseboards are put back in and the caulking has been applied. Your photo shows they are several steps away from being finished. Let them finish before worrying about the finished look....See Moretraceee
