Another leg-out person--huh! Like Itl, my husband's still asleep when I get up and I sometimes don't see our attic bedroom until I go back up in the evening. Our bedrooms are in hot sultry Georgia and Florida, also a definite factor. Long ago (in hot California) I adopted my MIL's method of folding the bedding down (preferably onto a bench we don't have right now). She was very firm in her opinion that bedding should air out between uses, and I came to appreciate that, but even more then that pleasing her also meant a very fast, easy, but tidy way to "make" the bed. We like to read in bed so have plenty of cushy pillows in regular cases, with one firm set in decorative cases that's discarded when we settle down to sleep and goes on top of all the others in the morning because it's less wrinkled. Simple, attractive with attractive linens even if not magazine-ready, and inviting to the only people who normally stroll around our attic--us.

The first and only time I took Ambien, I woke up during the night and started chewing on a pencil on the night stand. I knew what I was doing but wouldn't stop. Finally I went back to sleep. When I woke up the next morning a vague memory of chewing on a pencil came to me. I picked up the pencil, and my teeth marks were all over it! Scared the crap out of me knowing I could have done something really bad. I had insomnia for years. All those racing thoughts in my head which kept me from going to sleep. I also had Restless Leg Syndrome pretty bad. It would hit a couple of times a week, or more. Ever since my doctor prescribed Carb-Levo, I fall asleep in 10 minutes, sometimes sooner. I've been taking it for about ten years now and can't live without it! I take it before bedtime, and I don't feel groggy if I need to go to the bathroom, or when I wake up the next morning. We have separate bedrooms too. DH snores like crazy, and apparently I kick the you know what out of him in my sleep. I denied it until a few months ago I woke up after kicking the cat off the bed really hard. lol. I love my girly room though. Apparently it's becoming more and more common for couples to have separate bedrooms. Cindy, I love your story. :)

I think I prefer layout #1. #3 is okay, but I don't typically love a bed under a window unless there isn't anywhere else to put it. Your room is quite large, so I don't think the corner layout gives you any advantage. (I once read where someone, maybe here, said something like "show me a bed angled in a corner and I'll show you someone who didn't measure their furniture before buying it." Right or wrong, now I think of that every time I see an angled bed!) I think it would be nice to have a couple of chairs at the other end of the room, if you think you would use them. Or maybe a long window seat with some storage in it. Or a desk? Or craft table? I know you're experimenting by laying out your comforter on the floor, but if you got some of those moving discs, you could quickly and easily slide your bed over to that other spot under the window to see what you think. You could even sleep there a few nights to get a feel for what it would be like. We did that in our last bedroom and it helped a ton. By the way, I also have that Soleil duvet cover. I have a collection of covers as we use just the cover with nothing inside in the summer, and I change them out a lot since we have cats that spend time on the bed. Anyway, two things....I have other Pottery Barn duvet covers that are much smoother fabric and they wash much more nicely. Straight out of the dryer they are smooth and soft, and don't have wrinkles, and they have never shrunken in size. The Soleil is kinda scratchy, and wrinkled quite a bit, even though I washed on gentle and dried on low, and removed while still a bit damp. I spent quite a bit of time smoothing out the wrinkles with my hands. Much more of an aggravation is that the cover shrunk. The pre-washed size was generously sized and perfect for our king bed. The freshly washed duvet cover is now too short on the sides. I typically LOVE my PB duvet covers, but this one, being scratchy, wrinkly and shrinky, not so much! So be careful with the washing/drying, and if you end up not liking this one, try another. I don't buy much else at PB, but I do truly like a lot of their bedding.

My DM gave us a king sized electric blanket about 50 years ago. It was two blankets, zipped together, with separate controls for each side. One side disappeared with our DS when he left home. My DH never used 'his side' of the blanket, but DS used it in his less-well-heated bedroom. The other side is still working beneath the mattress pad on my side of our bed. I turn it on when I'm getting ready for bed and off shortly after I get into bed. I'm now wearing some all-wool socklets in bed. I wish I'd discovered them a long time ago! We sleep under a percale top sheet, a mid-weight wool blanket, and a feather duvet. The window is open on all but the very coldest nights. Our bedroom door is closed with a draft dodger at the bottom.
