Comments (10)Not sure if you've seen the RH items in person or are going off the web? Since you have a smaller bath, here's what I said to another poster: I stopped into a RH yesterday to assess the bath hardware in person. One thing that struck me was the SCALE of most of the lines they had -- lots of metal, substantial projections etc. Good for some, but I felt several were just too much for my small bath. Asbury and Chatham were two that seemed more proportionate for my needs. I'd add that I am also using polished chrome faucets etc. I knew several of the RH items only came in nickel, but didn't think I'd mind the mix. However, when I pulled out my faucet to assess the mixed finishes -- good thing my handbag was big! -- I found I really didn't like the interaction -- the RH nickel is beautiful but skews much more yellow than other PN I've seen (thinking here of Schoolhouse Electric and Rejuvenation). Perhaps it's something for you to consider? If so, the good news is the smaller-scale lines I referenced above come in PC....See MoreMy DIY French blackout roman shades in progress
Comments (29)Thanks! This room has the only windows that allow for an inside mount, sadly! Otherwise I would be doing it that way everywhere. The hardware projects 1.75" total by itself, and my husband had to install the brackets just a tiny bit forward in order to get the screws in. But I just took a look, and from the side, the shade looks just about perfectly flush. With just the hardware and the shade un-velcroed, the hardware seems to stick out more. I knew it would be close, because we had an extra piece of the header that we cut off the dining room shades. I confirmed all of that before I got started on these shades. :)...See MoreSmall 1br/1ba Guest House - Redesign
Comments (77)My in-laws are in their late 50s and early 60s. They’re in great health now, but we could easily be living here for another 20 years. The guest house (aka: cottage, casita, adu, granny flat, in-law unit) is at the rear of the yard. There’s a flat pathway from front to back. The yard is nearly all cement, which will be tackled in ~2 years from now, but we’ll be sure to keep an early level walkway. Prompted by this discussion, I asked my in-laws about wheel chair access to make sure we are properly considering the future, but they don’t want that kind of space. Cross our fingers it doesn’t come to that, but we are planning for a space that will work with a walker. If they are wheel chair bound, we’ll get help. Their priorities for the unit are: #1 an open layout between kitchen, dining, living - they want to keep that area as large as possible #2 access to the bathroom from the bedroom #3 I’m not sure what’s more important, but they want a decent amount of closet space and a small office space (think 3ft x 3ft corner hutch) I think we can do it :-)...See MoreBlackout blinds/shades without spending $$$
Comments (3)(Insert strong expletive here.) That's r i d i c u l o u s pricing for the average budget. You could go "cheap" on the blinds -- use old fashioned pull down shades in dark black -- then you can add your black sheers or something else -- perhaps a cornice or shag valance (long sided valance) as well to soften the look. https://www.google.com/search?q=solid+black+old+fashioned+roll+down+shades&source=univ&tbm=shop&tbo=u&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwieopLal-DbAhWJt1MKHROhDMMQsxgIJg&biw=1366&bih=628#spd=518285860030355824&spf=1529427046761...See Moretibbrix
