What interior doors are you using in your 'new old home'?
Comments (22)We're putting a new second floor on our old home, and are using 4-panel doors in a 2 -over-2 arrangement, with square sticking. They look simple & relatively timeless to me. One place we are saving money is the hardware. I love Emtek knobs but can't justify the price (door knobs are something I can change easily down the road, not so much for plumbing fixtures, the doors themselves, and flooring). So we're going with Kwikset in matte black - they feel better than Schlage (less jiggly) and are pretty inexpensive. My logic is to splurge on items I can't easily replace & for items I can swap out later (in a couple years) I'm choosing things I like so I can afford to LOVE the other things....See MoreWhat colors did you use in your new home?
Comments (17)I had originally picked greys and greens (revere pewter was the grey, can't recall the greens). When I looked at the samples in the house I realised the high desert landscape fit better with warm beiges with no pink undertone (I have a strong aversion to flesh tones). I wound up with BMGrant Beige and Huntington Beige with a few deep purple accents in backs of niches and powder, and slate blue that compliments the purple for other accents (niche and accent walls in guest room and office). Then I went a little crazy and painted my master bath and bedroom grey mirage - a soft grey green - but added a light purple wisteria accent wall (and bookshelf columns in the entry leading into the room). All trim throughout the house is bone. I had a consultation with a designer who encouraged me to think about the color architecturally - emphasising the volume of a wall or what Zi want to do (warm it, recede it).. So we added a picture rail to pull down the 20 ft high ceiling in the living room, bringing the bone ceiling color down the walls to the rail. Also, painting the largest blank wall the warmer Huntington beige, including wrapping the paint around the other side of that wall where it becomes the back wall/entrance into living room from the entry. I'm reserving final judgment until the floors and cabinets are in......See MoreHouse painter, check! House color, missing!
Comments (11)How about a pretty, soft green, and leave the brick unpainted? Though this house isn't much like yours, I'm thinking a paler green, and maybe don't do the black trim. You already have white windows, so I'm thinking just keep the trim white. Or maybe a little more sage than this one. But you get the idea. How funny, to cross posts with Beth, my fav. I like Beth's example photo with the green house best....See MoreHow many homes, apartments, flats, places have you lived in?
