I also came via google searches in Feb for information on a kitchen reno that I wanted, but had never done any research on before we started tearing out cabinets! I panicked when I realized that what had started as tearing out wall cupboards over a peninsula had morphed into a total gut of my kitchen down to the studs, and I didn't know what I wanted to put back. Before I started reading here, I just figured I would put everything back the way it had been (without the overhanging cabinets which I hated!), but all the advice and information has led me to believe that I can do something different. I just need to figure out what. I have not done any remodeling before, and I have always felt like I don't have a creative bone in my body! I have an eat in kitchen (13 x 16) with 3 doorways (one leading to the only bathroom on the main floor) and 2 windows, a limited budget (will live with current appliances and probably RTA cabinets) and a husband that is handy, but hates carpentry. I have posted a couple questions, but as others have said, had little response, so have just kept reading. I am trying to post more often, but it is hard to give advice when you don't know what you are doing! I expect I will be here a long time, as I find this all fascinating and have already learned lots!

Tibbrix, thanks for asking. He's now just using one crutch. I'm guessing this week he will switch to a cane. Had in-home PT 4 times last week and will have it 3 more times this week. After that will have to go to a facility. Not sure how he'll get back and forth as he can't drive yet. Thank goodness for the ice machine he was sent home with. He goes through 3-5 lb. bags a day. Hoping to decrease pain meds during the day this week. We'll see how that goes. With all the snow we've had in the past 2 weeks, I'm so thankful we're living in a development that takes care of snow removal. We've had someone keep our deck clear and I've been shoveling an area for our dog. The university where I work just cancelled for tomorrow...fourth day in 2 weeks. Amazing.

Lisa--If these photos aren't what you're looking for, let me know. FYI, my previous kitchen also had a similar backsplash and windowsill except we had three windows rather than one, similar to your inspiration photo. Amck's new kitchen has something very similar in her reveal. wifeoferp--we had good and bad experiences with Top Line. They were the fabricators our builder used, so that's why we went with them. When we went to their yard, they had numerous slabs of Super White from which we choose three. Templating went fine. I then asked to come and place the templates on the slabs (builder thought I was crazy as no one had ever asked to do this). So glad I did as after waiting for 45 minutes we were told that they did not have our slabs. No, they were not sold from under us (what I had dreamed about the night before), rather they were all cracked. The salesperson we were dealing with explained that she had been searching all over the Boston area for replacement slabs and finally found three. So, we were left with no choice but to go with those three slabs if we wanted Super White. I was very upset at first but now having lived with these amazing pieces, I'm thrilled. In our previous kitchen we had chosen slabs at Boston Granite Exchange and had the fabrication done at Stone One in Methuen. I preferred Stone One's work to Top Line.

I should also mention I only have $27.50 total in material to upholster both chairs! The upholstery shop I found locally marks down fabrics to $1yd when they get low on a bolt. Another shop was throwing out 4" foam slabs when the edges started to discolor from the sunlight they were sitting in(I got 3 slabs, stored them in my attic).

toomuchglass.....thank you! Your all sooooooooooo nice! I'm getting mixed reactions to my finished project....as usual. :0) This is the question.....DO YOU THINK I SHOULD PAINT THE WOOD ACCENTS ON THESE CHAIRS GLOSS BLACK? Please give me your honest opinion.....really...

This was my first attempt at tearing down chairs to the bones. I'm teaching myself upholstery. :0) No special tools....or machine I might add.

I didn't comment on your linked post because I didn't want to register, but I also vote no on the painted wood. They look absolutely perfect just the way they are. I am soooo impressed. I'm also encouraged because you said you are self taught.
