I've always called it a purse, but Grandma, born in Ohio, called it a pocketbook. Like cilantro's family, she also had a "coin purse" that she kept change in, it looked like a small bag with a metal clasp. She also had a "compact" for face powder. Mother had a purse and a wallet. The wallet had a small compartment for coins, slots for driver's license and credit card and a place for paper money as well as one for her check book. She had a matching "cigarette case" which held a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. She did eventually quit smoking, and now a cell phone case has taken the place of the cigarettes. Now I have a purse and a wallet, much like Mother's, but mine has more spaces for the endless supply of today's cards, from insurance cards to Costco to the local gas station, AAA, AARP, the library. You name it, they got a card! cacaobird, I refuse to go out in public in my pajamas, although I live near a college town and it seems like 90% of the students go to morning classes in their pajamas. Since I live out in the country, though, I can walk out with a cup of coffee and curse the beavers in the pond without anyone else seeing me. I've never worn a house dress that I remember, and I'm 61. Annie

While those bridesmaid dresses were not something I would pick, I think they did look better in person but not on all the women, unfortunately. My photos were somewhat blurry. What I don't like about bridesmaid dresses in general is that unless all the women look the same, have the same body style, the same dress will not look good on everyone. This was noticeable at this wedding. I would love to see a wedding were the maids dresses could be made different for each person. With my wedding almost 29 years ago, my maid of honor was concerned about her arms. We had the seamstress make sleeves on her dress but not the others, which has spaghetti straps. It looked fine.

The little African violet is just what I had in a pot small enough for the photo! SLOW: That heart shape is just a happy coincidence from the angle of the picture. The most I have paid for a purse was $75 in 1987. I loved the colour of the leather. I bought that purse, loved the smell of it but after I bought it I regretted the decision. It didn't have a handle or strap. I walked a far way from the bus stop to where I worked and the purse was heavy and I didn't like having to carry it under my arm. I still have that purse, looks good as the first day I bought it. Waste of money. I haven't had to buy myself a purse in a long long time but I seem to have a good sized collection. I have a cousin who buys me a purse for my birthday every year and the purses she picks out are perfect except for the one that had so much hardware and metal studs and buckles that it was just too heavy for me to carry. My sister would also buy me purses, I have 2 "Kathy" purses. I didn't know anything about the designer or that my purse was even a "Kathy" purse until a co-worker grabbed it off my arm and gushed over the silver bag. My sister loved purses and bought all kinds, some way expensive and some not so much. She told me about the purse my wealthy cousin gave to her. It was a $700 purse. When my sister died and I was packing up her apartment we came across several purses. I kept a few of them, gave some to my sister in law for herself or my nieces to use. Looking at those purses if there was a purse that cost $700 we couldn't tell which one it was. I gave the ones that I thought might have been the expensive purse to my sister in law but we will never know and if not someone who bought one of the donated purses from the thrift store got a good bargain haha. My cousin confirmed she gave the expensive purse to my sister so I know she wasn't making that up. I can't imagine spending that much money but then I don't have that much money to spend on a purse, some people do.
