After all the discussion on purses, I'd be interested to know how you feel about boots. Mainly fashion boots, not snow clompers. I have a pair of snow sorels I bought at Nordstrom 20 years ago that I still use today. But as far as fashion boots, I see everyone wearing them these days, with leggings or tucked into skinny jeans. I must admit, I am a boot snob. I love Frye, and have gotten a few pairs for less than 200.00 on 6PM.com. I got a pair of frye motorcycle boots on sale at Nordstrom a few years ago for 100.00 and free shipping. I have ankle boots, mid-calf and knee high boots, but haven't ventured into the over the knee boot. It either looks pirate-y or dominatrix like, not my style. So, do you wear fashion boots, and what brands do you like?

I wear boots almost every day when the weather is right. I like Frye, Tory Burch, Jimmy Choo. I have over the knee, knee high, a little shorter, and booties. Love them all!

I only have UGG boots~~~my girls all like boots, but I have just never gotten into them ever. I do not know why, I just never even look at them~~~

Yes, 5:1:1 can get hydrophobic if you let it dry out too much. With small plants in large containers though, you won't need to water much until they get larger. Two ways to get all the soil wet when it gets a bit hydrophobic: Fast watering. If you can get water in fast enough to cover the entire surface up to the rim, it will travel down through the soil and pull oxygen behind it. You will get some floating perlite, but it will all settle down and water nice and evenly. You need a fast draining soil to do this. Slow watering. As listed above by previous posters. Water several times lightly and carefully. This is best if the mix is very hydrophobic. Wet/dry areas usually happen when you water quickly, but not fast enough to cover the entire surface. In this case, the water will channel as discussed and you can end up with dry areas. I prefer the first method and try not to allow the mix to get to a hydrophobic state. Not sure I agree with those who state that they wait until the plant actually wilts. Not only do you stress the plant, but you also end up with hydrophobic media. Also, for beginners, the subtle wilting might not be noticed until a severe wilt which damages the plant. Best not to water until just before the soil becomes hydrophobic, and is best judged by the weight of the plant.

Sueb, If I hadn't sworn off black sandals, those would be great transitional shoes for me. I am very tempted by those. I have such a shoe problem after boots (Oct-April) before sandals. Ms thrify, You name is accurate, what great shoes and such bargains. Mitch, Your new pairs are both very nice *and* practical, a hard combo to find. I am enjoying this thread and all the ideas. I'm trying to decide if I need anything new for my trip this summer. I test drove my old Naot sandals at the golf tournie last week - hours of standing and walking in warm-ish temperatures - and they did very well. So do I need new sandals? No. Do I want new sandals? Of course. Should I send the money on unnecessary sandals when I'll already be spending so much on my travels? Ahhh, there's the big question.

Yeah I kinda figured ultimately I was going to have to mail order the boots and jacket, (sigh) which is why I posted the question here, with mail order I have access to more brands. I've worn out the Llbean shoe selection, but I still find a lot of my jackets and outerwear through them. My last jacket was a windbreaker with fleece lining from Lands End. The fleece I wear all the time, but again, the jacket doesn't wash well. A lot of those windproof, waterproof jackets get dirt stains that don't come out, unlike something like cotton duck or denim. I can always slip a windbreaker over a cotton jacket, but when I don't need waterproof or windproof, washable is key. Particularly now in pandemic times when I am more often washing stuff that I wear out to the stores and other necessary errands where I'm in contact with people. Oooh LocalE I just remembered I have a shirtjacket like that somewhere. Gotta find it, it's somewhere in with my packed away spring and summer clothing which I am slowly recovering. This time of year is so precipitous, I still have to keep my winter stuff around because we can have both winter and summer levels of weather in one or two days time.

I used to wear boots all the time had lots of them from cowboy boots to over the knee tall boots and every thing in between. I don't wear any boots much these days. I do still have a pair of short Ropers, some hiking/hunting short boots that lace up. I have my pink camo rain boots thats about it now. Oh I do have some UGG boots too.

I had no idea that crocs started making so many new styles of boots and shoes I have to say I really really like a couple pair of their tall boots. If you have not checked them out take a look.

I like their cobbler high boot and the equestrian boot, in the short ones I like the Berryessa

Back in my boot days I also really liked Frye boots and Tory Burch those are just to die for LOVE it all.

I've got Dansko, El Naturalista and Pikolinos. All very comfortable, like a second skin. They are pricey but I refuse to purchase new so only get them when I'm able to find a great deal on shopgoodwill.com auction.

I too love boots. I no longer own cowboy boots but have four pair of ankle-high boots, two that I bought in Buenos Aires. And a pair of knee-high boots. Three pair have short heels and two have high heels. I only wear these boots in the winter and fall.

I used to have a couple of pair of leather boots. Wont' wear a vinyl boot... YUCK!!! lol I don't have any now.
I need a wide. not a wide calf but a wide or extra wide
foot. haven't seen one! lol

Raven, I zipped over to look at the Croc boots, I wear Croc's in the yard~~I would like the boots to wear in the rain or when the grass is wet. I love that you can hose them off~~

I have Steve Madden , 9 West, a JC Penney brand, and a couple of others. I wear ankle boots, riding boots, and heeled calf-high boots. Nothing over the knee.

If anyone is looking for a water proof boot for slopping around in the yard and also winter proof(-40 degrees), you should try the Bogs.

I'm 'way past fashion boots! LOL The ones I see advertised seem to fall into three catagories: Utilitarian, Smart, and Pretend Prostitute. What do you think?

Ooops, just realized, I have three more pairs of boots I forgot to mention, all utilitarian.

So that would make, three utilitarian, four smart and one pretend prostitute. LOL

I agree Crocs has some cute boots! In the fall and winter I wear boots every day. Ankle boots in a wide size. Woman Within carries wide and extra wide sizes, I've also bought an inexpensive pair of wides at Cato... super comfortable.
