LindaC Goes From Boots to Sandals

I eagerly awaited for one of the Cooking Forum's icons to land at TIA. I didn't have to wait long as her flight from Chicago was 22 minutes early!!

I was sure Linda would be starving by now so after a very quick meet-and-greet we took off for the Rusty Pelican for lunch. I set Linda's expectations buy telling her that it was about the view and gabbing not the food. After a lunch of pretty good fried grouper, great conversation, and a beautiful view of Tampa Bay, we headed for Sarasota taking the breath taking Sunshine Skyway bridge route.

As you can imagine, there was no pause in the conversation. I really enjoyed our 4 hours together. We arrived at Kay's house-Linda's good friend's home. Surprisingly, a house I have passed many times. Kay is a delight and a talented artist.

In addition to the full agenda Kay has planned, Linda may have an opportunity to meet another CF icon--Chase. I am hoping to drive down to join that get together.

Rosewitch, England was definitely one of my favorite places I have ever visited. My folks took me there when I was 14, and I remember bits and pieces the Crown jewels, walking amongst the Stonehenge stones (roped off now, vandalism), Stratford upon Avon. Time for me to take my own 14YO. Im trying to think how I can get over there for a whole summer, LOL. Dlynn, I could have worked so much more. I didnt really look at night time stuff and there was loads to do. Greece: cant help you, but shoot Yasou a line, she went a few years ago. LOL Annie! Teresa, well go together. I wanted to explore more cooking and food shops/stores but didnt get to. Terri, here is more a link to Pictures of England, a website pointed out to me by Denise. I started it on Bourton on the Water, where we stayed for a few days. Thanks Sharon, I was actually thinking how can I even come close to posting her quality of travel guides, I dont do the pictures she does LOL. We might have sat at the same table in the Cheshire Cheeses dining room! Sawdust still there, but we didnt make it to the cellar. I missed a lot of the British Museum. It has changed.check out the new atrium. I couldnt keep up with DH and DS16. Afternoons, when I planned museums, I crashed. Next time! Pam, lots of people did more than we did per day! Theater every night, more attractions, I cant imagine. Gina heh heh yeah I need another vacation like a hole in my head. Speaking of whichDH has another week off in August. Nooooooooo! Kathleen, DH says he took an average of 200 pictures a day. Yup. Me, I just buy the post cards or Google the images, same thing (DARFC from the photo bugs here) Cathy, thanks for giving me the War and Peace moniker heh heh. Next time I go with CF friends! LindaC, I know. Im still exhausted. Speaking of the V&A, did you know there was a Dale Chihuly chandelier in the entrance room?

bmorepanic, You might have Autumn Joy in the wrong place- (too much shade?). Mine never reaches 4 feet high. But, if you wanna keep it where it is, try pinching the new growth when it's about 8-10' high- that might keep it more manageable.(And you can always use a plant ring- I finally broke down and bought several from Lee Valley that are like a grid supported by green plastic covered wires. Put them in place before growth is too high and let plant grow through grid. No more flopping!) And part of growing the right perennial is putting it in the right place- which is why my customers really appreciate my input, and most of my business is either repeat or referral. It's totally blown me away that I seem to care more about my $10 sales, than my suppliers have for many many thousands of $$$. Our windows took 6 months to finally all get installed correctly- we were offered no discount or recompense for the delay and hassles (long story- won't go into it here). Not that I would EVER delay an order by six months, but even if I'm a week or two behind (I sell seeds online), I always include bonus packs. And to carry the Autumn Joy analogy further- in your garden it doesn't work, in mine it looks good 8-10 months of the year- a definite winner. Lots of people love their marble, though I love the look, I KNOW I could not stand the extra care needed and that I would be bothered by marks, stains, etc. So, because it doesn't work for me, doesn't mean it's not an appropriate choice for someone else. BUT, this is where it behooves the supplier to inform the client- it bugs me to no end how much research is required for every single item. It certainly is a Buyer Beware atmosphere out there- some have lucked out in getting really good GCs, but for many, and for those of us DIY, it's a huge ordeal to have to investigate the pros and cons of EVERYTHING. (Sorry for the OT rant- I'm just so tired of all the work) Anyhow, had to go check my favorite shoes- I kid you not- they are called "FUNCTION'by Solidus. Well, I thought that was the name, cuz that's on the sole- but I think that may be their motto. Here's a pic- Have worn them to two weddings- didn't mind the lack of fashion as I danced well into the night at both of them.

sleepwalking + night terrors

Funny you who who talk about being gentle with a child experiencing tight terrors. My son who walked in his sleep also had night terrors as a toddler. When he would waken screaming it sometimes took 1/2 an hour to settle him down again. A friend who had a son who suffered the same way, told me to waken him thoroughly, so the dream state would stop. I would take him into the brightly lit bathroom wash his face with a wet wash cloth and give him a drink of cold water....by then he might still be sobbing but not terrified of something in a dream....and after taking him back to his room and soothing him for a few minutes he would quietly go back to sleep. Now the sleep walking was something different....he would get out of bed and go into the kitchen to get something to eat....and only when you talked to him did you realize he was asleep. He would walk around the house snapping on lights...once I found him in the den sitting on the floor "reading" a book held upside down, once or twice he tried to go outside but we heard him trying to open the door. It stopped about age 12...but he continued to talk in his sleep....scary when his voice was beginning to change and you would be awakened to "a man in the house!" LOL! His poor wife says she doesn't even hear him any more! Linda C

Hey Girls!

Linda, I sure know how much fun you had with Cathy. We spent 4 days with each other and never stopped talking...and I had not met her before our 4 days together.

Well you are both very lucky. Cathy, because I have long wanted to meet Linda in person. And Linda cause Cathy is one of my dear friends whom I have met. Can't wait to hear all about your trip.

Oh, I am so jealous! Not only because Linda got a respite from this cold, but because she got to have fun with Cathy, who is a hoot! And also because Cathy got to meet the one and only Linda C! LOL

And Sharon's on her way down there, too? Aye carumba! There's trouble waiting to be gotten into! heehee.....

Hve fun and I hope to see more pictures!

Cathy a hoot???? I thought she was very quiet!!....But maybe she was having a difficult time getting a word in edgewise!!
i had a limo service....a lunch and delivery to Kay's door....and Cathy almost never uttered a word!
I Wonder if she would say the same about me....???? :-)
Chabby is at Stew's boot camp, doing hand to hand with Sprite the renegade....
You do understamd Sprite never EVER wears toe nail polish....let alone purple polish!

Hey ladies you are looking wonderful and WARM!! Glad you two had such a nice visit.

I'm heading to Naples tomorrow for 10 days so we are hoping we can arrange to meet up somehow. Where there is a will there's a way!

It looks like loads of fun and if Chase gets in on a meet and greet, I'm really envious! You gals look good! Cathy, how are you keeping that great waist with all that 5 min bread that you've been baking? LOL!

Whoa, thanks for the nice comments. Ellen, are you kidding? That reminds me, my dough is calling.

In my defense, I was being polite to my guest. As we all know and appreciate, Linda is an all-around well informed person who is willing and able to discuss many subjects.

I quickly made of list and came up with 14 subjects that I brought up to engage us in conversation. So that makes me think that they were boring in nature and/or substance! LOL

Anyway, it was a treat to spend time with Linda.

In deference to my lovely hostess and chauffeur, I posted the picture which made me appear to be in pain rather than the one in which Cathy looked like an old wicked witch and me look like a sweet happy young girl!.....
( now I am really in trouble! She's close enough that she could come and GET me!!!!)

Well I for one think the photo makes you both look fantastic. I see no pain and I could never beleive that there would be a pic of Cathy looking like a witch. With her big heart, never!
