Blanco Silgranite Sink and Insinkerator

Hi everyone! Isn't amazing that you can plan for years, and then once things finally get started, it is like a runaway train! Currently I am stuck on picking a strainer/garbage disposal fitting for my 1 3/4 anthracite (black) sink. The strainers offered from Blanco are pretty pricey - but my biggest concern is some feedback on amazon that says they won't work with an insinkerator disposal - I am looking at the evolution essential or compact.

Any thoughts on this? My faucet is stainless, so I could go with that - any recommendations? While I spent a year researching CD fridges, I guess I should have lent a few minutes to this issue before the plummer is about to arrive!

Oh, and thanks to GW - I don't know if I would have thought to carefully check out my sink for cracks had I not read that here. Indeed - ours arrived cracked! Faucet direct had the new one here in two days :)

Has anyone used the one that comes with the insinkerator? If not,do you think it looks better with matching black, or stainless?

I'd like to know the answer to this, too. I already bought one sink that won't work with a disposal, and don't want to make the same mistake again.

Hi everyone -- I'm so sorry, I let this thread get away from me after asking for a clarification! I really appreciate all the pictures of your granite sinks. I am still strongly leaning toward warmfridge's anthracite cascade sink. I don't really know why I'm so taken with the sink but it seems to be some weird emotional thing... I can just tell that's the sink I will end up buying though I can't really justify it at all; it just seems like what a sink should be to me. It's a darn good thing those who have it seem to like it, though I doubt I'd like it so much if I'd been reading negative reports. Thanks for the context-pictures.

Thanks everyone! Here is the granite color I have I have already ordered the black Silgranite Sink so at this point I can't go with the Blanco brown, but I will be going to Home Depot to look at their brand tomorrow. The tough part is going to be matching the sink, the faucet and the tough one is the Sinkerator Hot water dispenser. Getting all those blacks to work is going to be huge. I like the ORB in Moen but it is very brown and the hot water dispenser is not even close. The only other option is to change everything to Matte black but the sink seems to have a little more charcoal so even that is not going to be a hit. Maybe I should go with stainless on the faucet ect but it is the only stainless in the kitchen and I have ORB hardware (a dark ORB instead of an brown ORB). I am driving everyone crazy here at the homefront as I have ordered 3 faucets so far and I have to have this done for the granite templete next week...thanks for the help!

Chris45ny, all you can do is give me your opinion and I appreciate you taking the time to reply. Westiegirl, glad to hear you have not felt the need to get a sink grid after 4 months. I must say that I am a little suspicious of the HD sink. We hear that often, about items not being the same from super stores - usually faucets & such. Breezygirl, odd how we feel like we know you because we have heard & seen so much from you. I am especially glad you replied because I know you have the same metallic grey color as I do and I knew you didn't start out with a sink grid. I suspect I will hate them too, as I didn't care for them the few times that I washed at other people's sinks with grids & have hated things getting trapped under there & things not able to stand in the sink, etc. Mabeldingeldine, glad to hear you have put that sink through a lot & super hot water to boot. Awesome news! Maybe the problem is in extremely cold areas? I am a little envious of the thought of your garden & even more envious of your chilies! Spicy, my favorite. I have a small outdoor deck where I grow flowers. Nowhere for veggies & such, but I still love tinkering in my little garden. A2gemimi, I haven't forgotten you & I have been lurking late at night. I replied to your PMs so I hope you got my replies. My faucet is centered. You can PM me to see how I like it centered, as things will be too crazy for me to check GW daily. After I move back, I will have to furnish most of my place and I have a 3 year old keeping me very busy. Try me after the weekend - maybe next Tues and check if I have any thoughts on it. We used magnets, but no need to glue. Just a metal soap holder and a bunch of thin magnets from Amazon, used on both sides! It works well for one sponge and you can slide it around and it stays together.

After reading the Amazon posts I cancelled my Silgranite sink and went with ss. It just didn't seem worth the potential hassle. Also my fabricator mentioned the problem of cracked sinks upon opening boxes and going to install. The plumbing distributor store sales person said those problems seem to be related to sinks purchased online and shipped thru UPS or FEDEX. Once again I decided it wasn't worth the potential hassle.

Sorry I cannot assist with your question but I wanted to let you know you are not alone on that train!! We spent three years planning this kitchen, demo started yesterday and now I feel like I am racing to keep up with the research necessary to make the endless decisions needed. I know there are people who get frustrated with how slow the kitchen remodel process is.. but for me it is moving a little too fast!!!

I just found this old thread on the same issue. The gist of it is this: most had no problems installing an Insinkerator with their Silgranit, while the OP simply bought an extended flange for a little bit more. Definitely not an insurmountable problem nor a dealbreaker.

Thanks everyone! Deebert - I feel bad I may have discouraged you from this sink. I love the sink, and don't think I will have any problems. I got a great price, and UPS is paying faucet direct for the new one. It didn't hold me up at all.

The reviews on amazon were about the strainer, and disposal ring, not the sink itself. I decided I really wanted black to match, and I was worried about the one from Blanco being plastic vs. metal. My plummer says the metal ones that are black sometimes have a loss of color due to pots and pan going across them. He found some heavy duty black ones that are not the blanco brand that we are going to try. I'll keep you posted. My granite is going in as we speak, and I love the way the sink looks!

OH - newbieremodeler - I can so relate! My GC guy is calling me as I am strolling through Costco to make sure I really want 3 glass shelves in my corner glass cabinet as they turned out to be a little more $ than he bid - oh the decisions! And the choices for dimmer light switches-who knew???
