Please show me your MODERN Dining Room lighting
Comments (14)chloe - yes! One thing to note is that the instructions say you need European size light bulbs, but you don't, just regular chandelier bulbs. I used philips LED (warm white) and they look good. This does not give off the rainbow sparkles of a crystal chandelier like you can see in beekeeperswife's beautiful chandelier. I would say the shadow patterns are a bit more like water/raindrops but not pronounced, in fact the light generally seems pretty even and the strikingness is more from looking at the reflection/refraction in the bulbs themselves. I like the warm rainbow-ey effect of crystal, so if I get a big raise some day I may go for crystal in the dining and move this to the foyer. The quality is mid, about on par for the price. I wouldn't want to look too closely at the chrome after a few years and wouldn't wash the metal parts ever - but I am lazy so chances of me washing my chandelier are slight. It was surprisingly easy to assemble and comes with a few extra bulbs (to assemble it just goes big bulb/little bulb). I would say it's easy enough that I would hang first and then add the bulbs. An electrician installed it and I wasn't home that day, so I couldn't use my usual method of counting swears-per-minute to guage installation difficulty. But no complaints. Comments (10)Here is an antique chair we upholstered for our daughter. She picked the fabric. Her dining room chairs are white on white. I like the way this chair came out and bought floral for my dining room chairs, but ended up using dark brown valour as I wanted to have a solid dark backround to showcase all my needlepoint pillows. here is our daughters chair. It belonged to her Great Grandmother. The seat and back are tufted....See MorePlease show me pictures of your corner cabinets in dining room.
Comments (15)Thanks, my3dogs. I feel very lucky to have gotten it. I also have the dough trough he made. My sister has the bed and a desk (with a hidden compartment). Yes, Rob, the inside is painted. Both my grandmother and my mother painted it to match the dining room walls in their homes. I suspect everyone in the family always did that. I have not repainted. I love all these cupboards, whether corner cupboards or flat ones! They are a weakness of mine! Would love to find a step-back cupboard that I could afford. Found one once, but was with a friend who wanted it, so I didn't get it. Turns out she never did either-so disappointing. Then again, I would take any one of the ones all of you posted. Wonder how many would fit in the house??? :) Good luck on your search! I think the idea of trying to find some from houses that are being renovated is a good one. Lots of older homes had built in corner cupboards that people may be removing and there were often two in the dining room. Post pictures when you find what you want....See MoreShow me your Kitchen Table!!! Pretty please!
Comments (52)Am almost too embarrassed to post this pic of our old kitchen table, but it proves a point. I bought it at an estate sale for $50, and refinished it myself. It was covered with so many years of gunk that I didn't even know there was carving on the legs till I stripped it! When I took the original brass casters off, they were dated 1876- neat eh? It can be lengthened to a honking 12 feet long- and we used a 'temporary' plywood stained leaf for the whole 20 years it was in daily use by the family. But, I ran a family daycare, and many many projects were done on this table. As you can see I have it covered with my seed collecting paraphanalia! My point is, for your young family, I would definitely recommend looking on craigslist/auctions/estate sales to find something well made and sturdy than can take a family's wear and tear. My old oak table is in my craft room now, but I expect one of the kids will use it when they finally have a permanent place to live....See Moren2cookin
