pigeen, in the worst case they should always give you the chance to buy it before selling it to somebody else. That happened to us, after a month of having it on hold somebody else wanted our slab, so we had to put up or shut up (we went ahead and purchased it, even though that was 9 months ago and templating will happen next week). I'm not sure it's the same everywhere.

You actually sign a contract at this place that they will NOT sell it to anyone else for stated period of time.
And I just got a quote and it is $2K over my budget. I'm hoping I get a lower quote from another fab guy and I have a last resort to ask a friend of mine if he can get them for me at cost. (I'm assuming these fabricators say they are giving you a "great deal" and really jacking up the price on the stone)

Oh my goodness that's one gorgeous stone. Where are you located? Don't worry, I won't take yours! I'll take one of the outer ones with less black that will work better in my kitchen.

It is called Fusion Quartzite.
I'm going to cry. It is over $2K over my budget. And I cannot do anything like get a lower grade range or cheaper cabinets. My ENTIRE budget is 9K and my counter top budget is $7K-pretty hefty counter budget as it is IMO. The stuff is $50/sq foot for JUST the material.
I took my husband with me to cancel and pick out something we both liked. We agreed on Bianco Antico. Kind of makes me puke a little in my mouth giving up this stone for Bianco Antico, but such is life. BA is really pretty and will look very nice in my kitchen.

So sorry it didn't work out for you. The BA will be beautiful!

Thanks for the info on where you found these slabs. I'll look at Bedrosians again in my area. Your Bianco Antico is bound to be beautiful in its own crystalline way.

Update-I found a place that has a shipment of it on a BOAT right now, so it should be here in the next 4-6 weeks. Because they don't charge by the slab, they only charge by square footage used, I figured it was worth a shot to get a quote. THey came in at less that 1K over my budget. I said "If I pay cash, can I get a discount?" She said they could probably do 5% off which brings me to only $600 above my budget. So PLEASE send grantie god prayers to that boat that the stone they have is the lighter type and not the darker one I keep seeing! And that I can convince my husband that an extra $600 to keep me happy is only paying $5/month for the next 10 years. I'll gladly fork over $5/mo if it is as beautiful as the slabs I have above are.
annakatherine-I KNOW that Bedrosians will transfer stock. In fact, the ones I saw were on a transfer order set to go to Salt Lake and they did something in the computer to keep them. The #s of these slabs were 0173032-0173036 If I cannot have those exact slabs, another GWer should have them!

Good Granite vibes! And for $600, you are crazy if you don't get what you love. You can tell you DH I said so- my DH would not hesitate! He let me buy a slab of the granite I wanted and not go pre-fab since I did not want a bullnose edge. It added almost 800 to our granite costs. DO NOT SETTLE! You will have this granite in your kitchen forever. I am so glad I did not give in when my DH and GC said, just get the prefab. I would have been miserable with bullnose in our kitchen.

It's easy to re coup $600. No eating out at all. Lunch from home. Don't buy books, CDs etc. Go to the Library. No movies, just DVDs from the Library. If you have to have people over, invite them for breakfast on Sunday. It's cheaper. I'm sure you know lots of ways.
The $600 comes back fast.
Don't give up what you love.
When the new slabs come, give them money right away and write your name real big on the back of the slab and the edge so they can't switch.

hi bahacca thanks for thinking of me. DH and I went to Bedrosians in San Jose over the weekend and saw this beauty:

And another granite place had this one which was a little lighter but gorgeous all the same.

There were also a number of slabs labeled as Fusion Quartzite which had quite a bit of red in them, so there seems to be a huge variation of stone available. We're looking for more green than blue, which is difficult to tell from a picture.

I can see why you love this quartzite!

Thanks for sharing those pics! I'm cautiously optimistic that all of the slabs I'm seeing that are lighter are all coming out of the same general quarry area and the ones this place ordered are lighter.
They also gave me the option of waiting for someone to do their project and then basically swooping in and grabbing a remnant from their project since I need such a small piece of the 2nd slab. I'm going to go tomorrow and look in the showroom as she said she has a kitchen in the showroom completed with it. I'll also look at other options as well, of course.

The slabs I had on hold and in the pictures at the Bedrosians in Orange run WAY on the green side. When I spoke to my husband about them, I even told him "They have a green irridescent undertone to them".

On the green side...oh no, maybe I'll have to take a road trip :)
