In my opinion, yes. But I am not sure I understand what you mean by vintage - would it be vintage-retro or vintage-antique? Kitschy or coordinated?

I think the curtains will work for the retro/kitschy look as they remind me of late 60's early 70's curtains. But it kind of depends...is the rest of the house done in this theme?

The house is done in no theme. Definitely a work in progress due to little time and money. If I could use words to describe what I want, it would be cozy, inviting, cottage-y, and comfortable. I am drawn to vintage and antique pieces, though unfortunately can't get everything old.

My table is from the '40s, I think, and is leading to a little too formal look, so I thought the curtains would keep things light. I think those curtains may have existed in the '40s as well . . .at least I know my mom had a bedspread with the pom poms which all got taken off by one of her pets, and she actually put them all back on!

Are you adding sheers behind them? I am assuming that is why you ordered the rod you chose. What do those look like?

The curtains are very cute, but very casual, and almost shout "bedroom curtains" or "Mexican hacienda". The table is very formal. Of course I don't know your vision and maybe a very kitschy eclectic look can be done with both those curtains and that table and the right accessories.

RE: Looking too bunched up in the middle . . .that is what I am afraid of. However, the two windows combined are 70 inches, and the biggest set I could get would be only 90" total. Would that look too bad? In that case, I'd just get one decorative curtain rod, I think (I'd have to).

Most of the windows in my home are not the typical windows I see in books/catalogs/etc. So hard to know how to deal with them.

As I said in the OP, I may be adding laces or valances-- not sure which. If I get laces, it will be these:

I don't mind if they look like bedroom curtains. Mexican hacienda . . .I don't get that feeling because I've never seen anything like them in homes I've been in Mexico.

I have only bought O magazine once (when Magnaverde's place was featured) but this was one of the photos in there . . .I love it!

Oh, and if anyone has ideas for curtains INSTEAD of these, please show me! I could always do cafe curtains with a swag (which would take care of the bunching in the middle issue) with these curtains . . .but (a) I'm afraid it would look too kitchen and (b) I don't know about the lack of privacy with that setup.

Well, if your window is 70" wide it might be fine. It doesn't look that wide in the photo - pictures can be deceiving.

I think one set of panels wouldn't be gathered enough if each panel is only 45" wide. Plus, you're going to cover a big part of the window.

I think if the window is 70" you'll probably be fine. But, you won't know for sure until to put them up. Some things are just hard to picture, and you think they're going to look funny and then it just works.

If it were me, I would probably just do panels on either side with sheers in the middle. I wouldn't use that type of rod, but use a decorative pole rod that also has a sheer rod behind it. You could get a rod that was around 90" wide and stack the panels 10" or so on the wall so the window area is only covered by the panels a few inches. Then your large window opening would be covered in the sheers. It would make the whole window look large and and allow sunlight through the sheers.

anele, try just one panel on each end first like Carole suggests. I'd also consider hanging them beyond the actual window so that all of the frame is covered but also part of the wall. If you just get the decorative short rods for each panel and the sheers spaced along a long rod, that might look good.

The ones you ordered appear to be a heavier weight than the ones in O; hard to tell. They may be fine, but I'd likely not use the tiebacks provided but try to find a heavy cord in the same color, maybe adding a pompom at the ends. I think the natural color will look fine in your DR. The petit point sheers may be a little too delicate, depending on the texture of the curtains. The look will be very pretty, but you may have to search for a heavier embroidery. You'll be able to tell when you get the curtains. Have fun!

caroleoh: Getting just one decorative rod, one pair of panels, plus two sheers was my original plan . . .until I measured the windows. Like you said, I guess I will have to wait and see.

abudant: Do you have any resources for other sheers w/heavier embroidery in case the petite ones don't work? The tieback idea is good . . .would I use a color?

I really think you'll be fine with just one pair of panels. I think 70" is not too much of an expanse, but is too short for two sets. Burroughs has some wonderful lace curtains on line, but you may luck upon a great price on Ebay. You might also consider buying fabric and stitching (or having it done) the simple rod pocket and hem if the bottom isn't pre-finished. I've seem some wonderful close-out lace, both on-line and in stores, when I checked a couple of years ago. I wondered too about the cord. It may be fun to pick up one of the colors in your other fabrics, but a matching one will be less distracting. They also have decorative dowels and other types of hardware that accomplish the same effect, but I'd first try a matching cord.

To your other post, how about Amorisa? i know it's 4 not 3, and made-up, but to my ear sounds pretty and just what I'd dream for my daughter. Sorry to interject here, but I don't have time right now to go through all the other suggestions. Best wishes to all of you!

Thanks, abundant! The Burrows curtains are so lovely! I am going to be perusing the whole site for inspiration pictures! I like your idea about finding fabric, too. I have already ordered the point d'esprit panels for my living room for sure-- does it look better if all the lace curtains match from the OUTSIDE of the house? You can't see the DR windows from the LR, but they are on the same side of the house, so you can from outside.

I wouldn't worry about the exterior differences if you choose another pattern for the DR. The point d'esprit panels are very pretty. Are you just using sheers in the LR or side panels too?
