A vote for number six. Or the brand new #8.

Add a colorful artwork over the mantel to really draw in all of the colors.

THEN create a family portrait/photo/picture gallery over the sofa. Turn the all of the family photos into sepia tones (soft browns and creamy tones) mat in creamy white frame in chocolate brown. These would stand out from the terracotta walls -- but still work with the tones in the room.

How about an area rug?

McHaney, maybe try making this easier -- new thread, lol? The thumbnails are hard to compare. Actually, when I back arrow to return to the thread I get thrown out into the main site area again for some reason. Try putting them in directly as the normal size so people can just scroll back and forth to see.

My vote is #8 or #4 or a possible #9 which has the mantle with legs with the brick veneer. With #5, I'd add that the veneer around the FP will need to be fire proof and not sheetrock as I believe the other vaneers are. I prefer the mantels with legs or a mantle supported by corbells. Just the mantle by itself looks like it is floating and disconnected from the FP box.

IF you're going to add crown moulding, and I think you should, I'd much prefer to see a consistent color and style in the whole room.

I'd like to see the brick stay all the way up, the mantle like in number 8 with legs. On the shelves, I'd put the stained wood on the back as well. I think it would really be much richer looking. Love the crown moulding all the way across. Can't see the whole room, but you could also switch out the crown moulding, baseboards and window trim to match the stained cabinetry, too. That's a much bigger project, though.

OK, now I see the bigger pics my second vote was #1 (not #4). But really cantmakeadecision was describing what I had referred to as a #9, brick with the mantle w/ legs. squirrel, can you do that one? Basically #1 but with mantle like #8.

I really don't think wood on the back of the cases, as well, is going to fly, as she wants to make things lighter. There's a pic over there with them in wood, but I don't recall how the fp area is.

Maybe b/c i have not followed this thread that I can tell in an INSTANT the one to choose. SEcond one without question. I prefer the focus on the FP - crown moulding, etc. and to LEAVE the brick alone around the FP. WIthout question! :)

I like Squirrelheaven's last one the best . . . #8, I think. Even though your home has a wonderful warm Traditional look to it, I like the idea of the brick being painted or covered over to give it a lighter, more updated feeling. If you do go that route, just make sure that your draperies are adequate to block the reflective light on your tv there.

Topping for Squirrelheaven. I asked her to switch the colors behind bookcase with the wall color to see what that would look like. So the Adobe color would stay behind the shelves of the bookcases and a lighter tan color would be on the walls.

Any opinions if you think that would work? Also do you have any recommendations for a SW tan color for my project?

One thing I do like is the contrast and color combination of the sofa to the wall color.

Number 8 for me. I've looked at the pics over and over and #8 just makes the fireplace look inviting and makes the room look more spacious.
