Walk In Pantry Layout

Hello, we are in the process of building a new home and it is soon time to do the shelving in the walk in pantry. Our pantry is about 15 feet in length and 6 feet wide. I will be putting both appliances like mixer and stuff as well as food items. There will be no dishes. Any recommendations on how I should set this up? There are no cabinets, it will just be shelves.

My walk in pantry is much smaller (7x6, spproximately) but I did all shelves, as well. I did a mix of shelf depth as well as space between shelves. I will also be putting small appliances in here and I have a small piece of laminate counter in mine. We are still finishing our home, but I can take pictures of it if you would like. I measured my food and kind of planned out my storage to determine how to have the shelves built. Good luck!

My pantry is a bit smaller but I have all those things in it. Here is the link with more specifics. It really turned out beautifully. It is part baking area, part office, part display and storage.

Now to the very knowledgeable group here, we really appreciate the insight and valuable input-thank you. We are fairly young and want to stay for about 10-12 years so, not so worried about aging in this house. :-) Also we are a family of 2 adults and 2 children with a need for a study cum office room for the spouse and love for clean lines and leaning towards modern to contemporary finishes with the love to access outdoors from all the living areas with plenty of windows/transoms etc for natural light. The lot is a flat-corner lot, facing 2 subdivision streets and the garage entry is on the culdesac street and the main door facing south. Kitchen layout-- it needs lot of work, we are open to it. Infact after reading here I have decided to have a larger pantry and use the walls for windows and fewer cabinets. Guest Bedroom: Is in the main floor, keeping the entire 2nd floor area only for immediate family. Stairs: We thought having them to the side will leave the entire area available, but it secludes the 2nd floor area completely, a very big issue. As we see right now. Sunken Great room is the focal point of this home which has been one of the major inspirations of this plan. Yes we understand it completely. Foyer entry also somewhat falls in that category.

I am just now reading all these amazing comments. We were going to sell our 5 bedroom house and build a “smaller” 2B2B barndominium, but plans changed due to my dad getting sick and not wanting us to move away from me. So we have decided to renovate what we have and incorporate the things I wanted into this house but I have no clue where to start. This house had NO storage. We have extra rooms I want to make one a butlers pantry that connects to my kitchen and the other I want to make a master closet. Any ideas would be appreciated

The pantry in our last home was about the size of your, minus the entrance area. I had our trim carpenter build a table on the left wall, similar to a garden work bench. Had microwave, blender and toaster on counter, and room to place a plate or grocery bags/unload. Underneath was kept open (with a lower/full shelf) for baskets (water, drinks). Shelves above this and on back wall were only as deep as a cereal box. Right wall was deeper (and built around HVAC return) than it appears in photos. If the next person needed more room, they can easily add more shelves to back wall and below counter. These photos are from when we first moved in that house, 13yrs ago. I added more baskets. Since I couldn't reach, and didn't need top shelves, I displayed my birdhouses there. While the glass jars were pretty, they were not practical, so they were replaced later.

I just redid my pantry which has almost your exact dimensions. California Closets did the layout and they came up with some good suggestions. They made most of the shelves to fit my large Anchor Hocking glass storage jars or my large plastic snap on containers from Costco. One addition was vertical storage for my seldom used cookie sheets and trays. That was installed fairly high since we rarely use them. Most of the shelves are adjustable. We put in wire pull outs to keep onions and potatoes fresh and off the kitchen counters. We also installed an outlet front and center in case we wanted to use small appliances in there. Our contractor also placed an LED light on the wall right above the door(instead of on the ceiling) so that light would shine directly on the shelving. He also put tape lighting hidden along the doorway for more light down low. The lights go on automatically when the door opens. We are also installing a 2x6‘ rack (I think from rev-a-shelf) on the inside of the door to hold spices and bottles in plain sight. We have spice racks and tray storage in the kitchen itself too. Like you, we put hooks left of the door for a step stool and a apron. As for depth of shelves—I am a totally dysfunctional organizer so I find narrower shelves are easier for me to see what I have and where I put stuff. For a sort of small food pantry we can fit a lot of stuff in there and it stays organized (for the most part). I can‘t believe your floor plan is almost identical to ours—I bet yours is built under the stairs too? Good luck!

My pantry is 5x9 with a 2x3 little bump out space. I put a freezer in the bump out. I purchased a narrow rolling island from Sam's club to park in the pantry that has a cabinet below and a butcher block top to function as a counter along the one wall. Other than that I used all elfa wire shelving so that everything is adjustable. I used 20" shelving on the back (5 foot) wall (floor to ceiling at various heights) for appliance storage. I then used 12" shelving (floor to ceiling at various heights) with a mix of shelves and shelf baskets on the side wall (across from the cart) for food storage. I stopped the shelves a little before the door and then put deeper shelves up high for cleaner storage with hooks/space below for broom and vacuum storage.

I haven't actually completely moved in yet (ours is also new construction) so I don't know for sure how well this will all work but it looks like it will be very functional.
