You need to give the floor person the proper amount of time to do the job. It sounds like he's a day behind on what was already an impossible schedule. I would suggest you tell your floor guy that you're putting off the move until he's done with the floor and ask him, without pressure, exactly how much time he needs to do the job right and to warrant the finished product. Some contractors will take shortcuts just to please a customer without regard to the negative effects. I can't speak to how long your wood should be acclimated since I may live where the climate is different, but we allow 2 WEEKS to pass between the time we lay the floor and start sanding. In instances where we are asked to shortcut the recommended acclimation process, I advise my customers of what the pitfalls might be and if necessary, relieve myself of the liability if something goes wrong. To put your stress in perspective, consider the inconvenience you'll go through if the floor job is rushed, then goes bad, either right away or after you've moved in.

CE - just found your note and wanted to follow up. At the GC's suggestion, we waited until they were ready for the final coat. They came and did the one room that was separate from the rest of the house. After 3 days of curing, I went in to wipe it down (with a wet cloth), to verify it looked ok. It was a nightmare - not only had pieces of lint and dust gotten into the finish, but they also managed to seal over areas where the painters had managed to drip paint on the 2nd coat - it wasn't a lot of paint, but small drips and smudges permanently sealed under the poly. And they were scheduled to come the next day to do the rest of the 1st floor. I sent pictures to the GC and told him that either the painters or the floor guy needed to verify that all the paint was gone from the rest of the floors before putting down the 3rd coat in the rest of the house and that we needed to meet to discuss what to do about all of the paint, hair, lint, etc. that was already sealed in the poly. I then spent the rest of the night, washing the entire 1st floor on my hands and knees, marking all of the paint, dust, hair, etc. in both parts of the house. The next day the painters came and cleaned all of the paint that was on floors that didn't have the 3rd coat applied. The floor guys came and scrapped by hand all of the places where they had sealed in the paint and where lint and dust landed on the floors. the day after that they came and redid the separate room and the rest of the house. After all of that, there were still a few places with paint in the original room that they had missed. They used a special lacquer pen of some sort to mark over the few spots and you can't tell there's paint under the poly. The floors finally look great, but, I firmly believe only because I spent the time on my hands and knees marking every spot. The floor guys blamed the painters for being so sloppy and the GC for removing the paper covering too soon (before the painters were completely finished, as they had to return about 16 times before we would sign off on their work - lint in the paint (I think they quit cleaning their brushes at some point), areas where they didn't prime the wood before it was installed, so they just painted it, and it raised the grain, so they had to go back and sand then repaint), areas where the switch/outlet covers weren't flush with walls (painters were responsible for finishing the drywall) - and when they did things like just try to fill in around plate covers without removing the covers, we removed the covers and had them do it again. A lot of work on our part, but it seemed to be the only way to get them to do the work correctly. And the GC just left it up to us to identify anything we didn't like. I did get tired have having them come back again and again, but I also knew that if they didn't fix it, I was going to be the one who was going to fix it, because I certainly wasn't going to live with having to look at all of the flaws in their work. After a very long 9 months, we're very nearly finished with the project. Whew...

Ok, so I had DH look over everything. He didnt notice anything. Plus he "measured" and thinks there is no difference. I tried to measure again, and I think it's closer to 1/8 in. I think the rounded corner is exaggerating my perception. I know it's there, but it doesn't seem to be nagging at me. It's odd, but when I'm stressed about unresolved conflicts, I have physical symptoms. But i feel ok. I think I'm just going to marvel at the beauty of the stone and the amazing fabrication/install. That's truly the only issue I found anywhere, and really 1/8 off over 36 in in one area is not bad. There's not a chip, scratch, or gap anywhere. Island, it's Rocky Mountain granite. It's still available, I saw it on a few websites, and my stone place just got in another slab. The sink is a Franke Orca, very popular here. I can't wait to use it tomorrow!

Rhetorical questions: If you have to cut a tile, why not cut it accurately? If the space to be tiled can't be measured accurately, then why not cut the tile slightly oversized then place and recut a time or two to get a proper fit? My comments? Your installation is okay for a first time DIYer, but it's certainly lacking considering it was done by someone getting paid to do it. The baseboard should have been pulled and the door trim undercut. Then the tile should have been set and the baseboard installed over the floor tile. Ignorance or apathy. Or both. There's no forgiveness for the slice in the corner bead. You don't "not see that" when you're setting it in place. Apathy. The bench installation isn't pretty, but who framed the shower and the bench? The tile can only be as good as the substrate it's going over. Accommodations can be made for slightly irregular framing when installing the tile backer board, even when tiling, but sometimes those on-the-fly adjustments depend on the framing and waterproofing used in the shower. Certainly the tile work could have been neater. Some of the visual will disappear after grouting with a tile-colored grout. That's not me giving the installer a pass. It's more me offering you a mental band-aid. In the end, when you set tile, YOU'RE responsible for the tile you set. No excuses. If a tiler is given an out-of-square shower to tile, he needs to bring it up before he unloads his tools. If the installer chooses to do a lousy job over lousy substrate? It's on the person installing the tile. The orientation of the floor mosaic? It looks like the bathroom floor tile hits the shower curb at a 45-degree angle, and the shower floor mosaic does the same. Or close to it. Did he try to make the grout lines of the shower mosaic align with the grout lines of the bathroom floor tile? As far as orienting the shower mosaic to the drain grate, the drain grate can be rotated 360-degrees, it is not a limiting factor. Built-in benches require attention to detail. I see minimal attention to detail in the finish surfaces of your shower, so the integrity of the bench is a concern for me. On these forums I've seen ugly substrate and absent waterproofing covered with drop-dead gorgeous tile installations. But seldom have I seen a tiler do meticulous detail work on the substrate and waterproofing and then go on to cover it up with a lackluster and sloppy tile installation. So like millworkman in his earlier post, I am concerned about waterproofing. Especially when I see a built-in bench. My conclusion? I'd ask about the waterproofing. If the bench and shower were properly waterproofed? You have Schluter products in the bathroom. Did he Kerdi the shower and the bench? Talk about the grout job. That it needs to be good, it can't be sloppy. You need the grout done well to pull this job together. If after all that talk you want to continue with this guy? It's a less-than-average tile installation. It's not gorgeous. It's not horrific. If you want an easy out, I'd have him replace the sliced Schluter corner beads. I'd deduct a bit to have shoe molding added to the baseboard, then painted. On the flip side, if there is inadequate waterproofing on the bench and in the shower, then it's a tear out. Leaky benches are just horrible.
