Have you ever heard of trading furniture?

I have a Sherrill brand wingback chair with ottoman. I'm hesitant to reupholster (have someone do it, I mean) because my tastes now run more to the transitional than traditional.

First question - could fabric do anything to make the chair seem less traditional? It's now in the 90's navy/hunter/burgundy print on stripes with a lot of mustardy gold.

Second - have you ever seen on CL or other forums offers to 'trade' furniture? I was thinking if someone had a more contemporary chair/ottoman of similar quality that maybe I could just trade them. Ever heard of such a thing?

I think you would be pretty lucky to find someone with exactly what you want that wants exactly what you are trading.

Oh, and fabric can do wonders. Also, if your chair has a skirt, you could take the skirt off, or do something shorter. It's even possible to change the legs on a chair. Talk to a good upholsterer for some options.

Only with family members. : ) I think it's great the way folks find things on CL that they can redo but I'm too squeemish. I'd always be wondering about the PO's personal habits. lol!

I agree, I think new fabric may be just what you need. Can you post a pic? Or try looking online at chairs of the same style but in various fabrics. That will give you a good idea of how your chair will look in a new fabric.

My mom says not to marry any guy you don't know through all four seasons: football, baseball, basketball and hockey. I have heard of this tradition, but it isn't necessarily one year and one day, it is just right around one year later. We wanted to be married on our 5 year dating anniversary (destination wedding) but that happened to be Easter weekend when prices were tripled, so 5 years and two weeks to the day worked out perfect for us! @Sandy1616... Just so you know, those Finish Tablets don't include a dramatic amount of Phosphate, compared to what we had in american detergents. Because Sodium TripolyPhosphate or Sodium Hexmetaphosphate is non-toxic, detergent manufacturers never listed it on the boxes in the United States. They we're however required to list "Phosphorus Content".. under Federal Law, but... that didn't really give a clear indicator. An Electrasol Tab containing 8.7% Phosphorus, is about 33% STPP by weight. I don't have exact figures on hand for each phosphorus level on this computer, but I will have to post them at some point. I really, really want to make a point of telling this. Cascade & Electrasol had a lot more than "6-7% Phosphate". Complexing Phosphates we're the Builders & Main Ingredients in these Automatic DW Formulations. They we're Powerhouses because they we're formulated with enough Phosphate to preform. I say this because you shouldn't expect a dramatic difference between Phosphate Somat & Phosphate Cascade. Both *have* about the same amounts of STPP in them.

Rhipsalis are very cool plants (but then all tropical cactus are, aren't they?). I don't know how many there are, and I've only grown the chicken foot cactus (I agree, an excellent common name that should be adopted by ICZN immediately) species, but I hope you get to collect them all, Shenue, and recreate the dryish-sometimes jungle for them. BTW, most cactus which have been in cultivation for a while often have several names - Rhipsalis is one of them, and as you've seen, there are several others.

Thanks for the idea, I will pursue googling for fun wingback chairs.

I don't have a pic on my computer and my son is using my camera to videotape he and his friends doing some sort of destruction with an old cell phone...odd!
