nightstands: brainstorming help?

In an earlier post I mentioned that my mismatched bedroom is driving me to drink. THe bed is a CL find; one nightstand is a blocky, low, modern piece painted grey-blue, and the other is a leggy spindled oak end table I've had forever; the dressers are mismatched, and one of them is falling apart; the fugly loveseat is going to be replaced by something but lord knows what; the chair is a Habitat Restore discovery in need of reupholstering. In other words, the entire room is a project, and I want it to be DONE. I need to start creating some order or harmony in there before I lose my mind. (Note: I'm at the tail end of a book manuscript... I suspect some of this passionate interest in my house is procrastination. Alas, that doesn't change the intensity of my frustration!)

So: My bed is very similar to the one linked below, but in an dark espresso stain. (and no legs: headboard and footboard sit right on the ground, so mine is blockier.)

Do either of these sets of nightstands work? I'd like to go a bit more modern, rather than sticking with the more traditional lines of the bed, but I do want to find something that complements it.

And the hitch: the room is narrow and rectangular, so DH has decreed that the nightstands must be narrow -- no more than 20" wide apiece. I have gone through just about everything on Overstock dot com, and they're pretty much all wider than that...

I would love some help with this. (and if you feel like chiming in about dressers, don't hold back!) Many thanks in advance, everyone!
