I would continue the same color up the stairs. I think if you go a darker color it will close in the space. Also i have always felt the halls and stairs should be your neutral areas to give your eyes a rest. Just my opinion. Hope that helps. Good Luck

But... the way that stairway is laid out, you could do something really fun, dark, and dramatic! Do a dramatic color so it has a gallery-type, unfolding to the upstairs kinda vibe.

I really love the Crepe in the entry hall, so I wouldn't mind having it go all the way up the stairway. That said I do like the idea of say going Crepe up to the landing, then doing something dramatic. There's a skylight up there, so I think it would take something a little darker.

I would use the crepe first floor, up the stairs and then (like you just said) paint the adjacent wall at the top a darker version of the crepe. Or even a different color, but a saturated color.
I use this trick a lot to push that wall back. And, since the lighting is very diff. there anyway...
Even if you stay on the same color card and just move down the line.
It really is a very effective technique.
