My patio furniture is here (finally)!

Last month I had posted some questions about what to do with my patio and I wanted to share with you some after pics of what we purchased.

Here are the two sets that we purchased:

This set we bought from Costco which is a combination all-weather wicker and cast aluminum with Sunbrella fabric. We were able to use the umbrella we had purchased earlier in the summer also from Costco.

After much deliberation we decided to go with a wrought iron patio set by Woodard which my friend had recommended to us. Though some commented that wrought iron can rust, my girl friend has had hers out in all weather for 8-years now with no problems. It has a special finish and 15-year warrantee. As it sits under the birch trees it is very nicely shaded in the afternoons by 2PM. The chairs are rockers and very comfy without any cushions which we feel work best since the tree drops leaves and fuzzy stuff. We went with a larger circular table to fit inside the flagstone circle which I had designed and had installed last summer so it's been over one year in the making.

We also were debating how to shade the area by the house which gets the afternoon sun. We haven't really felt the need for an awning yet, though have not ruled it out either (prehaps next summer). I did also purchase a larger sized ceramic urn from Costco where I plan to transplant a dwarf Clementine tree so overtime it's hoped this will provide some shade. It does have a drainage hole in the bottom--which I really don't want a lot of runoff water coming out. I was thinking either plugging it up with some rocks or getting a larger saucer for it to sit in. Which one do you think would be better?

Your backyard looks very pretty and inviting. Would love to sit with a book in the chair with my feet propped on the stool under the umbrella. I've had a similar wrought iron table and chairs for probably around 20 years. At times it has sat under an awning and for a period of about 6 years it sat out in the open. Your friend is right, they hold up wonderfully. I just go out and dust mine off and they still look great and are very comfortable with no cushion. Enjoy your yard now, you've done a lot of work :-)

Val, your patio looks gorgeous! I love the wrought iron, curves of the pieces, and fabric. Great finds as usual : ) The dining spot is wonderful. Everything looks so relaxing and restful.

I love Costcos. They really do a great job and their Customer Service and floor people are the best. I think they research what they sell and will take anything back that doesn't perform as it should.

Thanks, Tina!! The seat is 17" x 17".. and it has that little hump in the front. I haven't found cushions that size.. some are 17" x 15"... 18"x 19" and plenty that are 20" x 20". I am thinking it's worse to have a short cushion than a generous one.. true? I am leaning towards either a solid.. or a geometric design vs a print (I haven't found a print I like yet)... I saw striped cushions that might work but I am thinking stripes would be too much with the chair backs. Really, I want something that adds to the look without costing me a bunch (you'd think they'd be on clearance now but I havent seen any great discounts).

I have been doing some research to try to locate this set so I can actually sit in it.. and learned that this brand is experiencing extreme delays. I spoke directly to a dealer this morning and learned that the estimated shipping time is 40 weeks. (Shout out to Q Gardens in Milford, Ct.. they responded to my inquiry before 8am this morning! Great customer service!) Ballard Designs does have their cuddle chair in stock but it is with a beige cover and it won't work for my space. Since replacement cushions are an additional $750, that's a no-go for me. I will wait out the supply issues-- and continue to look at other options in the meantime. The key is, I now know that I want a generous, curl up in chairs. My local showrooms have more Floyd Landers in stock this summer.. and there are some PB options I'd like to try.

mimi: Glad to hear your wrought iron set is holding up well. We really went back-and-forth between that and cast aluminum, but it came down to not wanting any cushions for under the trees.

squirrel: Thanks for the complements on our backyard. Just to clarify, I should've mentioned that wrought iron set I bought over the internet, not Costco, and had to wait one month for it to be shipped out from Detriot. My girl friend has an almost identical set (except it's oval) so I just shopped around for the lowest price. I do love the Costco pieces--which were much more $$ when I priced elsewhere over the internet for the all-weather wicker.

I'm so glad they finally came! Just love those wrought iron chairs. I know they don't seem like they would be comfortable but they really ARE great to sit in, aren't they?

I'm loving your birch trees, too.

Your picks look wonderful in your yard. Glad you bought a large table because they do come in handy and works wonderful with your circle.

As far as your pot don't plug up the hole. I would buy one of those plant bases on wheels and paint it the same color as your pot so it disappears and you can move it when needed.

Your backyard looks so serene and inviting. The furniture is a perfect fit. Do you have children? My backyard looks like a demolition derby most days. I have beach towels, pool noodles, goggles and endless other things my kids leave lying around the pool and other areas of my yard. The teenagers are the worst. I want my yard to look as pretty and peaceful as yours. Enjoy!!

Val, I love all the choices you've made. The chairs, ottomans and unbrella look so inviting to sit and chat with a friend or your dear hubby. And I've always loved wrought iron table and chairs. They're just classic and in my opinion, will never go out of style.
As for the urn, I wouldn't plug the hole or get a drainage dish. Any run off would dry so fast you'll not have to worry. I think it wouldn't look as nice with a drainage dish either. It's a beautiful pot.

I've had wicker for 10 years now and it has held up beautifully.

Would you be able to tell me the diameter of this table? I am looking to buy a Woodard set and am torn between a 48" round, a 54" round or an oval table. I'd like to sit 6 and this table seems like it does that comfortably. Thanks!!
