Bobbin keeps popping out of place

My cheap Borther machine keeps locking up. I think I figured out that the bobbin holder is coming loose and starts spinning - once the needle pierced right thru the plastic of the bobbin holder!!!

Does anyone know what I am talking about? Has this happened to you? Is there an easy fix?

Any help would be appreciated!

my sisters brother did the same thing. you do have to have the notch nerxt to the spring on the bobbin case .her problem was the screws that hold the throat plate in place were loose allowing the bobbin case to spin i tightened them down and problem fixed ralfsmom

If your machine is the kind that the bobbin holder/case comes out,then you put the bobbin in and put it back in it's place,you may not be getting it in correctly so it locks into place.Play with it a little bit,and see if that's your problem.If not post a picture of your machine and the bobbin area and i'm sure someone will be able to help you figure it out.

Do you put the tail(handle) in the slot. If you don't it is not locked in. This will happen with any machine that has a bobbin case like that. Put the bobbin in and try to turn it manually if it turns you are not putting it in right.

For ivy growing on trees you should cut the vines that are on the tree trunks and everything above the cut will die. No need to waste herbicide on that portion. Work in a circle all the way around the trunk until all vines on the trunk have been cut. If you remove a little bit of each cut vine you will be able to easily tell immediately what has been cut. For a relatively small area you can just repeatedly hand pull the ivy. Although some say to just leave the pulled ivy on the ground I think it is better to let it dry out and die off of the ground. You can drape it on top of a brush pile for instance. I fixed one planting bed by ripping out all of the ivy in the fall and then sowing rye grain in the plot which helped suppress new growth and then I killed off the rye before it went to seed in the spring and native plants were planted in the bed. It worked pretty well but a vew stray bits of ivy did reappear which were easily ripped out.

That's expensive! You've verified your bobbin and top stitch are equal? Does it do this no matter what thread you use? Can you return the machine? Ya never know, it could be a lemon. Don't blame yourself btw, it could just be a factory error in manufacturing. Women always blame themselves lol. If you buy a new machine don't forget to oil it before you first use it. They say "it's oiled" 99% of the time they haven't and it can lead to problems. It's that little hole you see when you drop a bobbin in. Oh, do you have the right thread bobbin? They all look alike but there are different "model" types for bobbins. It'll be a litter like S or C and verify you've got what the mfgr says you need. Wouldn't it be nice if that was the problem? Keep me posted :D

Normally, I would agree with you, bpath. I abhor any actions that make fun of anyone for any reason, including telemarketers. However....trump is not a "normal" person and gathering people for the sake of his ego in a dangerous situation was flat-out wrong. The dems have rolled over again and again for this guy, who is mentally on another plain than the rest of us. He is in a position to bring (has brought) much damage and danger to almost everyone in the U.S., so I do not see this "prank" as being hurtful, but rather a method to disarm him, just a little.

Good tips from others. When the needle stuck in the bobbin case is there a burr on the case? You can use an fine emery sandpaper to smooth it, thread maybe catching on the burr and pulling the it out of place. After threading and replacing the bobbin when you draw up the bobbin thread pull it and upper thread back behind presser foot.
Remember when you start sewing to have the needle down in the fabric.

I've had bobbins come up on me from getting lint built up under them. You wouldn't think a little lint would cause a problem, but it can. Also, if you're using replacement bobbins, make sure they are the right style for your machine. HTH

Thanks for the info! I have actually not had a chance to get my machine out since the holidays and probably won't until after New Year's...I apologize for 'posting and running' as it were, things just got a little crazier than I expected this year.

I have taken the cover off the bobbin area, cleaned it out, and rechecked the manual to be sure I am putting it in correctly. This machine has worked for years and just started doing this out of the blue... The only thing I think might be happening is that the spring that the bobbin kind of 'bounces' off of is loose or has weakened somehow...? It seems like if I push on the bobbin in that direction, it will allow the bobbin to spin with enough pressure.

If this isn't making sense, I can take a picture...

The first thing I would recommend is to make sure that the bobbin holder is properly secured. If it's not, then it could be causing the needle to pierce the plastic of the bobbin holder. If the bobbin holder is secure, then you may need to replace it.

Sounds like the bobbin is not inserted correctly or the bobbin holder is not in place as it should be...that would be my first two guesses.
