how much to charge to alter bed spread
Comments (7)Most of us who do alterations have a minimum charge, too. Even if the spreads take only 40 minutes each, there's the electricity, threa, and wear and tear on the machine to factor in. I have a $20 minimum. If you are doing 30-40 bedspreads, I'd ask her to give you one spread to alter, and figure your pricing for the rest based on how long the first one took. Comments (24)I hired a seamstress to cut off and rehem 4 panels 37" wide × 63 " long, each. She charged 80 dollars but deducted 15 dollars because I keep her supplied with hangers. I had just given her about 100 of them. I will admit I don't buy them, get them from my son-in-law as they dry clean his work shirts or wash them, not sure. I know he doesn't wash them at home, and he saves them for me. But she ended up charging me 65 dollars. I couldn't believe it . Thought it was a little much. So I will ask you ladies that are in the business, was it a fair price. The curtains were 100% Polyester. But very nice. The hangers are brand new, just used that one time, and they're the wire ones. So I really would like your opinion. If not for the hangers, she would have charged me 80 dollars for 4 panels...See MoreHow much to pay for hemming childs pants?
Comments (16)I recently hemmed several pairs of jeans for a lady I met during baseball season, her sons played on the same teams as my grandsons. I didn't charge her anything, but she said she had paid $2. per leg in the past. The only reason I responded to this at all is to give a word of advice. The first two pairs she brought for hemming, she brought an old pair of his jeans and wanted the new jeans the same inseam length of the old pair, no problem, right? WRONG! The length of pants is more involved than inseam measurement, the way the pants fit through the waist, hips, etc., also figures in to the length. The pants were too long when I got them hemmed, so I had to do-over. Thank goodness they weren't too short, there's no correcting that! The next time she had jeans for me to hem (4 pair), I had her to bring the boys with her (much to their dismay), they tried them on, one pair at a time, and I turned each pair's leg up at the proper length. These jeans all fit the boys perfectly. Another tip: Your iron is your best friend when hemming any garment, or any sewing for that matter, it makes the job so much easier....See MoreDress Pant Yoga Pants?
Comments (33)I can't find them online, but I recently bought several pairs of what Macy's advertised as 'leggings' but which are pretty close to what's being described/discussed here. They were in the regular sportswear-not activewear-department with all the other pants, ie not with the exercise clothes. Anyway, they are made of knit fabric, band waist and cut to fit snugly but extremely comfortably. They've got pockets on the back and came in both ankle length and a longer boot cut style. I bought several pairs and love them for work. I always wear a top untucked over slim fit pants anyway since I work in a generally business casual office (university advisor/admin), so they are perfect. The only problem I have is that I accidentally hemmed one pair inside out. So now they have cuffs which really isn't working for the look I'm going for LOL. Once I fix that, good to go....See Moredamascusannie
