how to sew 2 rugs together?

I finally found a shaggy rug for my son's bedroom at walmart.But it comes only in 2 by 3. I want to buy two and sew it together. Has anyone tried this? If yes what needle and yarn should I purchase.? Is there a better way aprt from sewing. Maybe iron on tape ?? I have not tried iron-on tapes before but only saw them on Hgtv shows.

One of our teachers created an interesting rug by taking carpet squares, taping them together on the bottom, and then laying them on some sort of backing, to which she GLUED the carpet pieces. She then had to put rubber strips on the carpet so that it would pass the "non slip" rulings for school safety.

It all depends on what the backing and edges are like.

If it's bound in fabric, a big hand needle and "carpet thread" in a basting or X stitch will work.

I thank each of you for all the lovely comments, but that lower left center section drives me beserk. I can "see" the misalignment from 12 feet away. Since the paper is still firmly attached to the back of the block, and as my next "project," I'm going to pick the stitches out of that section and see if I can realign it and set it in properly. Of course, I stitched the pieces together with about 247 stitches to the inch. If the fix works I'll post a photo. If it doesn't...I'll have a colourful dust cloth. (Not really; it will become a throw pillow cover no matter what.) So, I'm officially a member of this group. I have a "project" for the month of April; let's see if I get it finished. Of course, I didn't specify which April. LOL

How to sew quilt squares & rows together plz?

Kim, If you pin each row together, matching all the seams from one row to another and pinning in place, then sewing rows in alternating directions isn't really an issue. When sewing small squares together, it isn't an issue at all. I have found over time, that working with long rows can become cumbersome. I know work in smaller grids. For example, if I have a quilt with 12 squares across and 12 squares down, rather than sewing a row of 12 together, I will sew 3 together, then the 3 on the next row down, and the 3 on the 3rd row down. Then I'd make those into a 9-patch 'block'. After I make 'blocks', I'd start sewing those larger units together. By doing it this way, there are fewer squares to maintain order to, and less likelihood of turning a row in the wrong direction. Also, a design wall helps, too. Please share photos! We love to see what everyone is working on. Hope this helps. [Btw, the alternating direction of sewing that you refer to is way more important when you are quilting the 3 layers together.]

Oh, Annie is just great. I have her sitting on a table in my living room so I can pop in and look at her every day. I bought new needles and installed correctly, oiled and greased her so she sews a perfect stitch and hums along. I have not had a chance to sew actual squares and strips together because I don't have anything ready at the momment. I'm looking forward to a relaxing day sewing on Annie on the patio. I will have someone take a picture then. In the meantime I have some other (non quilting) projects to get done. Jean
