Thanks to everyone who took the time to offer advice! Like suggested I definitely do not show any disappointment to my DD as she loves it so far, and is at the sweet age where she really loves pretty much anything we do in that room. (And yes, I am prepared and excited for the eventual re-decoration years down the road :-) I have to laugh at myself about the "small room" comment I made. I didn't ever get my own room without having to share with *somebody* until I was 22! I mulled over all the ideas - I moved the dollhouse down next to the bed, and the desk under the window and I like that better already. Tonight I will try the desk next to the bed - there is room for a 48" desk there (will shop for something antique/vintage). Most homework / work gets done in the dining room and by the time we need a hardcore work desk the dollhouse will probably go by the wayside :-( I have decided to not paint the wood dresser for now. I googled and found a few images on Houzz (I just discovered and love that site!!) posted at the very bottom if anyone is interested that show a mix of wood and cream / white that I was kind of envisioning, so hopefully I can pull off that look. And I do agree a nice dose of pretty fabrics will help the room more! I would like to attempt to keep the current rug, as it does have a bit of pink in it. And will be looking for some kind of younger / girlier fabric that still works with the darker rug. I can always move the rug elsewhere if it still doesn't work. kitschy, We used to have an 806 Sq Ft house. I had it fixed up so cute. Was like a little doll house. We really enjoyed living there. The cabinets were also from the late 40's early 50's because that is when the house was built and I am sure they were original. So many layers of paper behind things. I had to redo all the kitchen walls because too many layers of paper to get off nicely. Even olive green flocked. EEEEKKKK The house did not have plumbing to begin with and they stuffed a tiny bath into what we think was a large pantry or maybe it was just part of the kitchen. Leaving just a cupboard behind. Still the house was so fun to live in. We did enclose part of the front porch on three sides and put a washer out there. We could only use it in the summer then had to winterize it. Best of all it took me about an hour to clean the whole house and even do a good job of it. Gave me more time to explore the hills behind the house. The dog goat and calf and I would all go for a nice walk. Ah For The good old days. Chris

I agree! I would love to see a dedicated thread to the doll house, Mmmbeer. It looks incredible. Reminds me of the dollhouse that my grandfather built for my sister. Thank you all for the kind words. The same to all of you that may be sad during this holiday season. Also thank you for the encouragement in my Christmas décor. It's really been a struggle this year. The house is finished, though everything is less elaborate than I usually decorate. Some things I was getting sick of. I guess change is good. :) I wil post more photos this afternoon.

I can't believe I didn't see this thread before now! Great job, Jojoco! Productive, creative and fun. My grandmother built a dollhouse for my younger sister, but I think I loved it even more than she did. I always thought it would be great fun to do one. The only one I have done was inside a jewelry box. I remember the bed was a fabric covered penny and I thought a round bed was the coolest thing ever. It would be fun to do a standard sized one.
