Bill, I've made a good many of these and never had a pattern...you can make a sort of universal size (that is, big enough to use for all pots), or make them a certain size to fit a certain pot, which is what I do...for, I have small and lg pots...so, large and small cozys. Simply measure the pot...height and length and cut out a template that will generously cover it, top to bottom...curve the top edge....making sure that, when put together, 2 of these will easily slip over the pot. When you have your pattern made, cut out 2 pieces of backing, 2 pieces of batting and whatever it is you choose for your top fabric....you can piece this, applique it, whathaveyou. Then pin each side's pieces together and quilt in whatever manner you want....put the 2 completed pieces, right sides together, and sew together. Turn right side out and add binding to the bottom edge. I rarely use a pattern for anything, for it forces me to subscribe to that particular size, and I generally want a different size, whether it be for a cozy or a block.... making your own pattern is the only way to always have something be the size YOU want, not the pattern maker!

Without being able to see the garment on the person, it's difficult to tell you what to do because the blouse not fitting in the front can actually be due to not enough room across the back of the shoulders. That is, there isn't enough fabric across the shoulders in the back (because of her wide shoulders), so the garment is trying to "pull" more fabric to the back to cover the shoulders and the front doesn't fit. My best advice is to check a sewing fitting book (the library or even take a look at a book in the book store). The Vogue sewing book has some good photos of where wrinkles show up and what causes them and how to alter the pattern. Fit for Real People is another book, with very detailed instructions on how to alter the pattern. However, identifying the actual cause is important. CMC

I used the pivot method in the Youtube video I linked to modify the front pattern piece - I don't think it's going to fit on the fabric, going to have to cut a new piece. The edge of the new armhole ends up right in the selvedge, and with only 3/8" SA I think the little holes are going to show. Plus since the narrowest point is 25" from the selvedge and I refolded to 12.5", the edge of the hem is right AT the edge of the selvedge, which is 1/2" deep so I know some holes are going to show there, unless we make it shorter. Well, then again, the hem is 1.25" deep (double the 3/8") so maybe that will be folded up into the hem and the part that actually shows will be OK. I don't know, I've got other things to worry about now. DH decided to help me this weekend by getting the deer/rabbit netting up around the garden (permanently installed T posts with ENT conduit extensions to 7ft). But he trenched 3 sides and filled in with bark mulch, I think to try to keep weeds from creeping in (he just didn't do the side where my strawberries are creeping in, so I can move them). Now the plastic pegs that hold the bottom of the netting don't have anything solid to hold onto, we're going to have to lower the netting and lay it out farther from the posts onto solid ground. I'm afraid that trench is also going to fill with water and become a breeding ground for mosquitos (maybe they won't like the bark mulch?). We'll see tomorrow - supposed to get 1" of rain tonight. But I think he's going to have to extend the trench to the lowest point and let it all drain into the (already swampy) low point in the back yard. But I can't say anything until after my fears are proven correct, b/c any time I question something he's done and suggest a modification, he "undoes" what he did (sometimes making the matter worse) and then ignores my requests for other projects. He built a 3ft high stone circle around our wellhead a few years ago for Mothers Day, it was lovely, but when I expressed concern that our (then) young child and cousins could get hurt climbing on it b/c it wasn't mortared, he tore it apart, never rebuilt it, and has ignored my requests to build a 1ft tall stone wall under our porch, while proceeding to build a 50-ft long retaining wall in the back yard to the south of the vegetable garden.

Thanks everyone! Yes, I think a shrug is what I'm looking for, although I haven't yet spotted one like the one at the craft show. When it wasn't being worn, it looked just like a scarf. The scarf would have been crocheted as a long rectangle - the length would be equal to the length of a person's arms, if they were standing with arms stretched out to each side and then a measurement taken from left wrist to right wrist (including the width of the back). Then the rectangle would have been folded and joined together lengthwise, except for the section across the shoulders, which would have been left open.
