Whatever floats your boat. I don't know if my usage is generally typical, though it's similar to other people I know well enough to be going in their fridges, so I'm not entirely alone. I use the door shelves mostly for bottles and jars. Lots of condiments and sauces, bottles of water, and containers of soft or grated cheese, though those probably not without the butterbox, and no one wants to look at all the little things that live in the butterbox so I imagine you wouldn't hang it on the door. Doesn't matter, if I had a glass door fridge, I'd want to see the pretty produce, the basket of speckled brown eggs, the transparent container of homemade jam, not a forest of labels. Without the door shelves, with the bigger interior shelves, I'd put bottles and jars into clear boxes to organize them and make them easy to pull out. I just can't imagine arranging red onions and rutabagas to make the door shelves look better...

My interiors are painted to match the painted cabinets -- this is at the recommendation of the Kitchen Designer. They have a lacquer finish to enhance wear. The cabinet exterior is SW Casablanca and dry-brush glazed with Van Dyke stain. My glass-fronted cabinets have tongue-n-groove maple stained on the back to match my stained island. A previous decorator/colorist had recommended we paint the cabinet interior in a previous facelift to create a consistent look when we opened the cabinet doors. I hope this helps.

My corner cabinet is the one with the glass door. It is a pretty large cabinet and I need really large glass shelves. I will be putting a lot of heavy dishes on them and I am afraid that the 1/4 inch shelves will be too thin for all that weight. Today, DH did a great job of putting a puck light on the side of the cabinet of each shelf. You cannot see the puck light. Each shelf lights up and it looks great. He did a wonderful job of hiding the wires. I feel more comfortable with the wood shelves, they seem much stronger because of the size.

If you don't have glass shelves you'll need lights under each self. Otherwise the top shelf will be lit and will block any light getting to the rest of the cabinet. My glass cabinets came with wooden shelves and we special ordered glass ones from a local glass shop, which were delivered a few weeks later. The lighting looked pretty bad until we got the glass shelves in.
