Glass doors with wood or glass shelves

Hello everyone. I recently ordered a white kitchen for my summer home. I sat aside a double cabinet with front doors clear glass, but white wooden shelves inside. I plan to have our wine glasses and other glasses as well some attractive china stored here. This is for a summer home with a modern clean look and relaxed feel. Now how to light up the area in the evenings? All three shelves? I specifically chose not to do glass shelves because did not feel as reliable, and during the day, I prefer the white shelves look over glass. Now I need help how to light these cabinets in the evening for that fun awesome look?

If you don't have glass shelves you'll need lights under each self. Otherwise the top shelf will be lit and will block any light getting to the rest of the cabinet. My glass cabinets came with wooden shelves and we special ordered glass ones from a local glass shop, which were delivered a few weeks later. The lighting looked pretty bad until we got the glass shelves in.

I think if you want them lit inside you do need glass. I'm sure you could light under each shelf somehow just have not seen it and I'd imagine it'd be expensive. You don't have to light the inside though. Will you have under cabinet lights that are on a dimmer? That is not only functional but pretty when turned down low in the evening.

Whatever floats your boat. I don't know if my usage is generally typical, though it's similar to other people I know well enough to be going in their fridges, so I'm not entirely alone. I use the door shelves mostly for bottles and jars. Lots of condiments and sauces, bottles of water, and containers of soft or grated cheese, though those probably not without the butterbox, and no one wants to look at all the little things that live in the butterbox so I imagine you wouldn't hang it on the door. Doesn't matter, if I had a glass door fridge, I'd want to see the pretty produce, the basket of speckled brown eggs, the transparent container of homemade jam, not a forest of labels. Without the door shelves, with the bigger interior shelves, I'd put bottles and jars into clear boxes to organize them and make them easy to pull out. I just can't imagine arranging red onions and rutabagas to make the door shelves look better...

Thank you all for your responses. My shelf is 32" wide by 13.5" deep. So 3/8" sounds like what I should purchase. I hadn't even thought of edge profiles. I have learned so much from this forum but unfortunately, didn't discover it until I was half way through the renovation.

Do you have frameless cabinets? Here is a diagram of them on framed cabinets-Is this where you have them? We place them in the corner behind the cabinet rail (not door) usually with a small angled strip in the corner to direct them, shorten the shelves by 1/2". Never see them. Pic is insets but note the side access glass to the dining area- lights are unseen. For frameless you can route the sides and install a flush track with a diffuser but I wouldn't want to do that on already installed cabinets.

For heavens sake. Just shorten the cabinets over the sink, and make them ALL glass doors No solid doors) on that sink side. Uppers are only good for glasses and dishes anyway. Be neat. You don't need to recess them, just shorten over the sink. Yes it's done all the time. Nobody has gone to ER for the concussion that has not happened. If they are all same glass front? You won't be counting the inches in width left, right center whatever. Or............... use a 33 inch sink base, 18 inch Bosch DW, and have 9 inches to your symmetry issue added left db and upper cabinet. And I'd still do all glass doors, and shorten those over the 33 sink base. The 6 inch loss of DW sizing ? No big deal. Most folks hardly notice. Hand wash the bulky pans. And a 33 inch sink base will take a very decent single bowl sink.

You can do light wood shelving with LED tape lights behind the face frame. it's how we lit these 2 glass cabinets.

I also have led tape lighting attached to the inside of the face frame for a kitchen display cabinet that has wood shelves and glass in the doors. My family room has open display cabinets with wood shelves and led tape lighting attached in the same way. This method works well in both instances.
