How would you place furniture in this room?

We're designing a new house that we'll hopefully get to build. It has a "hearth room" in the kitchen. We wouldn't really use it as a TV or family room but rather as a cozy place to sit and read, talk or play on the laptops.

In my latest rendition of this room, the hearth is centered on the wall between 2 sliding glass doors. DH prefers the symmetry of the windows this way. I'm concerned that it makes everything too squished together and limits furniture placement.

The kitchen is pretty much set as to it's location, but the table and hearth and closet or whatever can move. We do want to preserve as much light as possible (2 walls of windows).

What do you think about this furniture placement? Is it too tight? Does it feel cozy in the middle of the room? Would you give up symmetry to get better placement? Does the furniture have to be in front of the hearth?

Creative ideas welcome!
