Please help with granite install question!

My granite is going to be installed tomorrow. My husband just told me that they are planning on mounting the dishwashers to the granite. I have read on this forum that this is a really bad idea. I have read it is best to mount them to the base cabinets on either side. I am guessing that gets done before my granite is installed. Is that correct? One of my dishwashers is a Miele and the other is a Bosch. I have tried to use the search function and the words granite and dishwashter and different combinations and I come up with nothing found. I am hoping a granite expert will chime in here. THe granite is called yellow river. I was under the impression that drilling into the granite could possibly cause it to crack. Both dishwashers are situated between base cabinets. These are new dishwashers. I hope that is enough info to get an answer. Thanks!

Our contractor made a big deal about getting side mounting brackets with the new dishwasher because he said "you can't mount it to the granite" but he didn't say why not, whether it was just too difficult or that it could risk breaking the granite.

I just had my dw installed last week, and it went in AFTER the granite (we were waiting for the new flooring underneath to go in first). No problem to side mount the dishwasher to the base cabs on either side. The plumber told me that most new dishwashers come with brackets to install either way (top or side).

I truly appreciate all your help mikie!It is so difficult for me to explain exactly what is going on.I only know computer basics and just enough terminology to be confusing. LOL Currently,I am connecting to the internet by going to Earthlink.net and clicking on the set up button. I am accessing my e-mail through Earthlink.net, too. That is the only way I can connect to webpages.I can no longer connect using on desktop icons or by going to internet connections. The problem started when I allowed a Belkin auto setup to program my wireless router to my computer. Even if I disconnect the router and try to connect the way I did before the router I still can not connect through my computer. The only reason I mentioned proxy server was that when earthlink had me join teamviewer4, teamviewer4 stated I was on a proxy server and that I needed to connect with my computer connection. I am basing my statement on that info. I may not be on a proxy server. Is connecting through Earthlink.net connecting to a proxy server? I have not called earthlink back yet as the tech seems to get frustrated with my problem before it can be corrected. Also, it is a minimum 1 hour call each time.

If you are able to slow down and stop the presses, I too would look at some more all-silver options (matte-type) because I think the simplicity of it will go well with what you've got. This is one of those opportunities where you find yourself considering a whole other look. Of course in the grand scheme of things, if you installed one of the existing options like white& silver tomorrow so you can get your kitchen faster that would work out ok, too.

I'm sorry to hear about your problems with the granite install. I can share a bit about what happened with mine- At the time of our install of absolute black, everything looked great to me. But by the next day I found several small scratches in various places. I called the company and they sent the guys out to fix it. I asked if they could buff the scratches out somehow and they said there was no way to do that without taking the shine out of the granite. They used a couple different solutions and they worked to hide the scratches. Since you weren't there you really don't know what they did to your seam. I'd ask for a detailed description of what they did and ask how they are going to shine your granite up again. I doubt they will refund all your money, but keep on them to get it fixed!

There are pros & cons for each type of reveal: Positive--where the sink shows/granite is cut slightly larger than sink Pros: easier to clean b/c you can see the gunk and can easily wipe it off (it only gets nasty if you leave it there) Cons: silicone (caulk?) is visible, but if they use clear you won't see it when it dries Negative--where the granite overhangs the sink Pros: You cannot see the gunk buildup or silicone Cons: -- You cannot see the gunk to clean it. -- Dirty water/food can splash up & under where you cannot see to clean it. It's difficult to see underneath w/o leaning way over & into the sink. -- Dishes have been known to break b/c when you lift them out near the edge of the sink they dish hits the stone counter & can break (or, if the dish wins, the counter could chip...but I'm not sure how likely that is). Flush--where the granite & sink are the same Pros: -- easier to clean b/c you can see the gunk -- no platform over or under for the gunk to collect Cons: -- more difficult to do perfectly -- silicone is visible, but if they use clear you won't see it when it dries You will find proponents of all three types of reveals here...but in the end it's what works best for you. my dishwasher went in after the granite as well. There was plywood going across the dw space that the granite was installed on. I would think mounting the dw to the sides would be better if/when you need to repair or replace the dw. But I am not an expert, so hopefully someone who knows will chime in.

Same here...DW after granite, plywood across the space where the DW goes....

we have side mounts and I was also told DW's don't get mounted to the stone only the cabinets.

When our new Bosch was installed we purposely had it mounted on the side so that there wouldn't be a problem when later we decide to put in granite. The Bosch attachment tabs can be top mount and side mount.

If the counter installers are willing to mount to the granite let them.

If anything goes wrong it is on them.

Most of the time the DW goes in well after the counters, and no appliance installer is going to mess with trying to attach to the granite.

I have seen small filler strips that match the cabinets epoxied to the underside of the cabinet, but that was for a higher than regular counter height.
