I have just recieved a scanner and want to use it to scrap but how? Any ideas out there?

I plan on using mine to scan a lot of Heritage album items, pictures, documents I even saw in one of the scrap magazines where they scanned in a Heirloom plate and old watches, can't remember what else but they came out really great. You can also scan your completed scrapbook pages and send them to family, friends etc.

Pam:

Do you scan the photos onto laser paper, or do you have special photographic paper that you use?

Thank you for your suggestion. I got into the site and was reading, then decided that I would try once again. To my amazement it worked and I was able to put two new ink cartlidges into my printer. So thank you........Grace

Scanning, but keeping BACKUPS of the scanned papers somewhere safer than on your hard drive. OCR is far better than it used to be, and searchible is usually OK when you scan. it's more an issue of the software than the scanner, except for the automatic feeder part - the commands to run the scanner are simple and will be part of any You can probably download and test various software for free with your existing scanner. When you find one that works the way you like, buy the auto-feed scanner for it.

alisande, you may be stuck in a never-never land of old hardware that doesn't run with newer versions of software or operating systems. Unless you're able to run the gauntlet of Canon and Microsoft forums or tech support, or know someone with experience jury-rigging old drivers and old hardware with new other things. A solution may require the purchase of a newer scanner that doesn't use TWAIN. I discarded a TWAIN-using scanner at least 5 years ago, the new PC I got at the time resisted all my efforts to make them work together. I didn't think TWAIN remained a supported or used protocol anymore but I guess it does to some extent.

I haven't scanned anything yet but I would assume I would use photo paper. My scanner just came last week and a friend of our is coming over Wed to put everything in, I had to upgrade my harddrive, RAM and also Win'98, I don't touch insides of CPU's LOL.

If you are scanning photographs, you need to use photographic paper. Click on print, put the setting at highest quality, then go into the paper type and change the settings to photographic paper. You need to do this to get a good quality picture. The print-out will be very slow with these settings and may take several minutes, depending on the size of the photograph.

Yesterday a friend emailed me a picture she had compiled and collaged. She needed a print-out right away so she could send it to her aunt for her birthday in another state. I did the print-out from here and it turned out GREAT! If you need more detailed information on doing the printout, let me know.

p.s. I am a new scrapbooker and have only done a few pages, but I LOVE it! I'm already addicted to buying supplies!

I would like to use my scanner to add to my scrapbooks as well, but I'm afraid the photos I print will not stand the test of time. Any idea if they are achival safe, acid free, etc....?

I use my scanner to copy pictures. I've bought Kodak paper in both Premium Picture Paper, and Premium Inkjet Paper. I would never have bought this paper had I still had my old HP 695 printer. It never printed very good to begin with. I bought a new 895Cxi and it prints so well! I get so excited now when I start to print something. I also bought a program that is very inexpensive, from Kodak. It's called Kodak Inkjet Photo Variety Pak. It comes with 10 sheets of good paper, and a disc, and you can make 5x7's, wallet sized pictures or 8 x 10's. Print them up and put them in your scrapbooks. I'm making each of my children a scrapbook beginnning it with mine and my husband's grandparents and working up till the present. It's so much less expensive than bringing the pictures in to a developers and having them charge you an arm and a leg to make a negative then reprint them. I love technology!!!!!!!! :) You just have to make sure you change the settings on your printer before you start printing. Just go to the control panel, open the properties for your printer and select the right setting for the paper you're using.

My husband just bought a new scanner to help with our scrapbook of a trip to France (6 years ago!...LOL) He hasn't quite figured it out yet and he's really computer/electonically savy...we think. Anyway, we have all these slides we need to scan...otherwise it would cost the price of the scanner to get them made into photos! Does anyone have experience making scanned photo prints from slides? Any words of advice? Thanks to all...love this
