Some quick cabinet guidance?

I'm going cabinet looking today and have a couple of questions-

I'm hoping to do white cabs up top (with the ones on either side of my sink having glass) and stained wood on the bottom. I have a small kitchen, white appliances, will uncover my wood floors and hopefully will be exposing the original beadboard that goes around the whole kitchen so I can use that as my backsplash. I'm going for any kind of look that is in the country/vintage/rustic family.

Should I choose cabinets that are the same door style for top and bottom? Is there some sort of rule for this?

Also, between raised panels and recessed ones, is there a difference as far as contemporary or country for example?

And last, what kind of cabinet construction should I be looking for if I've got a middle class budget? The whole 1/2 plywood thing has me confused.

I'm a design mess, thanks for any help.
