Attaching Blanket Binding: HELP!!

I can sew ok when it comes to making simple pillow covers, etc., but until last night, have never tried to make a blanket/throw. Recently, DD talked me into buying some sort of super soft, yellow fleece with slightly raised dots on it to make one for her window seat. I was going along well until it came to sewing on the satin blanket binding to the two ends of it . . . and then I realized that (1) I had no idea what stitch to use, and (2) if I needed to sew on one side of the binding on first and then fold the binding over the other piece and stitch it down, as suggested by one site online that I (frantically) checked out last night or what?!? I'm also not sure (3) how to finish off the edges at each end, as I'm not taking it around all 4 sides. BTW, I've already sewn the two pieces of the fleece fabric together at their long sides (for added warmth); the top and bottoms are still open, but (of course) now turned right sides out. Help!

Thanks in advance for any directions and advice.

Lynn
