I fell in love with a man 20 years my senior we have been together 10 years. Alot of good times and bad, the age difference has not bothered me one bit. He has dated younger women before so his family is used to this. He is not a sugar daddy I work and support my kids without any finacial support from him as a matter of fact we have never talked about money even though his income is alot higher than mine. Because we live in different towns we see eachother on the weekends and holidays it has always been like this.I guess you shouldnt drink and get on the internet but I am getting to the point in my life that I want more and I dont think he does.He has always been with me through crises with children and my mom dying of cancer if i want improvements to my house he does it for me with me by his side and I pay for all materials. Am I single?

Yup.

What does he say? Seems to me 10 years worth of relationship would enable you to speak of it directly. Maybe weekends and holidays are enough or maybe he's thinking like you are.

Don't have insecurity per se, but definitely feel like I'm headed away from 20 - not as comfortable as I'd like to be with that. It's not because of age; I KNOW I don't want to be 20 again - EVER. But, somehow I keep thinging that the end is near, even if it's 30 years from now. I miss enjoying the things that I did, or could do when I was younger. It's not to say that I sit in a rocking chair all day because I don't - work all day, then sit in the rocker - LOL. But when I'm around younger folks, I really feel different and can't get used to that. When I'm around people my age, they do things that feel like old folks things - that I don't like. Maybe I have a few more years to go before I mellow out some more. But then I'll be OLD!! As far as a relationship, it's harder when you are older. I'm pretty independent because my dad left when I was 12 and my Momd didn't remarry until after I did. So, even if it was difficult, my sister, my Mom and I got it done.. Some guys tell me that they don't know how to take me because of that. So I'm up against that curve too. But, I was also taught that women don't go places alone and all that old fashioned garbage. So I guess I'm not used to getting out so I can meet someone. I'm used to someting so much different - hard to meet someone when you are independent and have old-fashioned values. Plus, the older guys just don't seem to want much - they are just happy with good company. I guess that's the romance that you get when you are older, but it would be nice to have someone wink an eye at you every once in a while too. Oh well - I'll get use to this age at some point.

Well I am not in your situation, but my stepgrandmother is so I feel I have a little advice to give. My grandfather is much older than she is, and in fact my stepgrandmother is only a few years older than my father. My uncle is older than she is! Anyways, she never had any children of her own and she married my grandfather past childbearing age. I was still around 10 when they married. She never really liked children (I realize this more as I am older). What she would do is plan activities for us kids and invite my parents along too. A day at the zoo, an afternoon at the movies, etc. Then she would plan dinner parties that were "adult only". Now that I am older and married with children she does the same with me and my children. She has never mader herself and my grandfather available as babysitters, but they did live an hour away from us so it was not easy for my parents to just drop me or my siblings off to run errands. I do have to say that it is normal for grandparents to babysit though, I always found my grandparents situation a little odd. If you feel your dh is babysitting too much tnen talk to him about it. But, you did marry a grandfather and do need to let him be a grandfather. Seperating him from his children or grandchildren will not be productive to a healthy relationship.

I haven't read that book - the description does sound good. One book I would recommend that helped me personally is Harold Benjamin's "From Victim To Victor." It helps in dealing with doctors, treatments, and things that improve the immune system to help one get through it all. Benjamin started the Wellness Community centers, where patients and their significant others can go to free, moderated support groups -- there may be one in your friend's area. Ours helped us a lot. I'll put a link below that lists a review, and the bottom of the page shows several other books that might be helpful. As a former patient, I want you to know that your friend will still appreciate talking about everyday, non-cancer topics with you, at the same time knowing you are open to hearing her concerns about her illness. If you'll read your post, you may realize that you've answered your own question.

I think that the situation you're in is one we women tend to sort of drift into,
not really thinking it through & maintaining & guarding our positions.

Yes, you are very single.

& you've been spending your free time with this one person for a long time, so you're isolated from other singles & from possible partners.

It sounds to me like he has a very good deal,
he's happy with it, &,
should you decide that you're "ready for more" *from him*...

you don't have a lot to bring to the bargaining table.

You know that you won't get "more" unless you say that you want it.

But you need to be prepared to have your request turned down.

If that happens, the ball is back in your court:
You must either continue managing your life & time on his terms, or make the break so that you can pursue other options.

I would urge you to be ready for that before you have "the talk".

You might also just do a couple of trial week-ends on your own:
see what it's like to have your time back, see what there is to do out there, etc.

Sounds like a good deal to me. You see him on weekends and holidays....in the meantime, you don't have to put up with the stresses of daily living together. He is there for you it seems, during bad times, he fixes your house....I would take it in a second. If that isn't enough for you, take the bull by the horns and say so. You are afraid to rock the boat, but if you want more and he doesn't, now is the time to find out. Don't lose anymore of your life if this isn't going anywhere.
