Recommend Type of Fabric Please

Hello,

I am rather new at sewing and have a question about a project I will be doing soon. I would like to make a baby changing table cover to cover the pads I have on there now to co-ordinate with the room's decor`. It needs to withstand frequent washing, be soothing or comfy to baby's skin, slightly stretchable because I need that kind of mistake allowance (newbie really, lol), and I personally do not want to use terry cloth if possible because of the pilling.

I would love any suggestions!!

How about a t-shirt knit,jersey type.Or you could use flannel,but that doesn't have any stretch,it's nice and soft though.If the pad comes off,you could use just cotton and make pillow cases that just slip on and off.

Good quality cotton terry does not pil...a stretch terry might.

This is where you could use some of your terry towels to sew up a pillow case as kathi suggested. The terry will withstand washing in hot water to remove any stains and whatever might get on the casing. This can be a benefit should baby get a bad case of diarrhea.

There is a heavy backed flannel you simply pink or scallop around to use underneath the baby...more moms use those than anything else. There are bed chucks (plastic underneath an absorbant disposable fabric found by the adult diaper section you can quarter and use.

I like Babs which I bought from Roslyn nursery. One parent is a deciduous/evergreen hybrid. Evergreens seem to favor fucsia and lavender. There is no blue in the red. It has fluted buds that open over a long time and i suspect it is a tetraploid. i.e. 4 sets of chromosomes, thicker petals, longer lasting flowers. p.s. I just posted jujube on the seed exchange.

Rebutia, several species 'Peanut Cactus' several colors both are small clumping. That fabric is beautiful!! Personally, I would choose a lining that is solid like Annie's 3rd from the top. Or else the open simple stripe 5th from the top. jennybog's suggestion is good, too. Many fabrics already have coordinating fabrics that go well with the print and the colors. I think it's fine to mix other types of fabric with it. They don't need to have the same linen look. You could even use velvet on the dining room chairs.

You can try Crypton fabrics Â they are stain resistant. About abrasion Â it doesnÂt matter if a fabric is printed or woven, the most important thing is how tight its weave is, so you can go to printed cotton also, just check if itÂs tight enough.
