Rick rack on a purse

For all you sewers I have a question on sewing Rick rack on a purse. I want to use it as a trim but I have never sewn rick rack.How do you sew it on a purse?

I am a self taught sewer and I am just branching out in trying to sew other items so this is like a newbie question?

I did this on a diaper bag. I lined my needle up to sew down through the center. I'm not sure if you're talking about using it as trim this way or in between your lining and the bag at the top.
