Are glass tile backsplashes high maintenance?
Comments (16)We have Sicis glass tile everywhere *but* behind the stove - I opted for sheet stainless there and I'm so glad I did. You can really see if you've gotten splatters up there and it cleans up so beautifully. TH\he tile meets it even with where the cabinets stop. We had a plexiglas backsplash (or you could get a tempered sheet glass backsplash) in our last house, and that was easily cleanable too. The *sheet* aspect is what makes it so easy, I think, because there 0% risk of anything soaking into any grout, even if it's sealed....See MoreAnyone do sheet glass backsplash?
Comments (9)I haven't installed it yet, but we're looking at painting a piece of glass to mount just above the cooktop. The painted side would attach to the wall. We experimented on a piece of broken glass to check out the effect. We didn't even prime the glass, just painted with whatever paint we had on hand. Turned out great! If we scraped hard it would come off, otherwise is had adhered well. Painting the wall and putting a piece of glass over it gives in an much more inferior look IMO. Comments (16)amen, aloha! my darling meowzer! Yes, I saw that and commented, both on my original thread *and* the thread you started! I am so appreciative and that is exactly what I am looking for! It is a little late in the game for me to change my mind now. :( But tis ok...my cabs are GORGEOUS and I am thinging...maybe we could add a glaze later? Is that possible? Anyway, please see my posts to you on both threads. I am so happy you found it! thank you pillog, always happy to have your input. My cooktop will be on an island, so no worry about heat! Where my sink is...yes, there will be a change in cabinet height...and we talked about doing something decorative there...but with mirror, not sure if that would work. Maybe seamless pane of mirror for entire backsplash and then behind sink...maybe small mirror tiles??? thank you gr8! I am super duper excited and soo appreciate your help and enthusiasm!...See MoreBacksplash ideas to coordinate with a not too busy granite
Comments (52)ToxDocAR - that's not your kitchen above, right? (At first I thought it was). Make a sample board of the new tile, which btw I don't read as dark at all. It's very easy! Take a scrap piece of wood (or even heavy cardboard). With double-sided sticky tape, apply your tiles. Then, mix and apply grout. Sponge clean, let dry a couple of days. Take pictures in place. Then, chip tiles off (I tap gently with a hammer and flat screwdriver) and repeat, with a different grout. You'll know, then, whether you like it or not. Or, if tiles are inexpensive enough, make multiple sample boards so you can compare in place. You can definitely reuse the tile....See Morea2gemini
