Using cut field tile to finish off glass tile backsplash (pics)
Comments (6)I think it partially depends on whether you want the backsplash to look "framed". That's essentially what the porcelain tile will do because it is visually different from the glass tile. Bullnose tends to be more expensive than field tiles, and you will (almost definitely) have some scraps left over from doing the shower. I would consider cutting some of those scraps into the strip shape (as you would the bullnose) and taping it up as a layout to see if you like that framed look. If you do, then go ahead and cut the bullnose and tape that up. This would hopefully save you some money if it turns out you do not like the look of the frame around the glass tile. My personal preference would be to not do the bullnose around the glass tile. To me the mosaic is very pretty and has a lovely rounded edge and I would not want anything to take away the focus from the glass tiles. However, this is just my opinion, so feel free to ignore it....See MoreIs it difficult to maintain glass subway tile backsplash?
Comments (4)We have a glass tile backsplash; a mix of glossy and matte strips. We don't find it difficult to clean or keep looking good. I rarely need to wipe the splash, except for over the range. I usually use a microfiber or paper towel and whatever spray I happen to be using at the time (alcohol-water mixture, Perfect Kitchen or Perfect Glass...). It takes more work to clean the tile (and white grout) just above the back vent/trim on our gas range, which it likely would with any light-colored tile. When I roast a chicken for example, using high heat and convection fan, I usually need to clean the splash over the range (I'm guessing vented cooking grease and/or high heat causes the discoloration we see). I've used Oxyclean, STT's HD-Clean, Dawn Power Dissolver, and even BKF, without harming the tile (no scratches). Of course, you might want to test any cleaning products on sample or leftover tile if you're unsure if it will cause any damage. I personally think it's very low-maintenance and love the look!...See MoreAny maintenance involved with glass tiles for kitchen back splash

Comments (16)Google "back painted glass" and your city and you should get some options. At least where I am (DC metro area) the prices varied wildly. All of my outlets are under cabinet, but i understand the glass folks simply cut out the outlets and polish the edges, just as the edges at the end of a counter run are polished to a smooth finish. My glass has little tiny notches cut out for the wire for the under cab plugs. Best of luck....See MoreRelated Professionals
