I have a Heartland stove 9200 that is about 26 yrs old. Bought it for the look. No problems for 19 yrs. Then the burner knobs started getting difficult to turn. Paid for appliance repair to come out but they were unable to repair. Situation worsened, called Aga Marvel and bought some repair parts. They never supported my efforts. Called Thompson Appliance in Tacoma, Wa. My experience with them leads me to to say never call them. The stove new was almost $5,00. delivered and installed. Thompson came out said I needed to have it taken into the shop, polished up and rehauled. They reportedly went to a recent seminar on the stove at Aga Marvel. I paid 2,500 with the parts and after a few months, same problem. They are a dishonorable team of father and son (son being the worst). I lived with one working burner for about 2 yrs. until I found an excellent repair person on Vashon Is, Wa. Issue with these burners: careful to not get water spilled down into the burners. Rust develops. I believe that was the only problem. Heartland was bought out by Aga Marvel and now have some stove parts but phasing out. Good luck.

I think you should go for them- they are beautiful and unique. I am a firm believer in doing something fun for pulls. When I'm in a kitchen that does fun pulls, it personalizes it a bit more. I'm not sure why your kitchen is considered Victorian (I mean this in the humblest way, I trust it is considered that, but just in my ignorance of current kitchen style wouldn't have categorized in that way) but that style of pull would definitely fit with shaker style. It wouldn't fit with 1930's style which was more stream-lined and art deco. If you wanted to do that, although I know you don't like them, I would do green glass pulls (you can actually do green glass handle pulls too). The link below is to a kitchen that has similar cabinets and counter top and goes 30's. If you were going Victorian, I actually think the style would work with it, while it wouldn't be considered high Victorian, remember Victorian style spanned a long time and includes arts and crafts and eastlake is part of this category. Also remember, if you look historically, the Victorians didn't paint much of anything white- they couldn't get a real white color, it was more brownish because they used Linseed oil as a mixer- so again, go with what you love and don't fret about matching. It's impossible to do accurately. Yeesh sorry for the mini-history shpeil (speil? speel?) but that's one of my favorite parts of decorating. amw33629, I didn't post this yesterday as it probably won't help but I did pull out my kitchen mags and do a thumb through and I found a couple of examples. Kitchen Makeovers Fall 2008 Again a vintage white stove, 18" white dishwasher and white fridge in an alcove away from the cabinetry with no cupboard above. They had their Cabico cupboards hand painted (they wanted brushstrokes) and the look is very vintage with built in feet on the inset cabs, butcher block counters and vintage accessories including a 30's Hoosier cabinet. Kitchen Makeovers Fall 2008 Quite low budget kitchen in a 50's era home. Kitchen has a retro feel with white trim, white appliances, white cabinetry and a sheet vinyl white floor in a tile pattern. Walls are a stong colour that matches the laminate counters (no backspash) It's a U with uppers on only one side. Cute very simple and appliances seem to blend but overall the room has a stong retro feel. Kitchen Solutions #45 pg 38 Creamy white shaker cabinetry with Cleopatra granite and wood floor. Very contemporary (not modern) kitchen with a strong use of earthtones. In all honesty awful it looks like they cheaped out on the appliances (wall oven and micro combo, fridge and cooktop are visible). The appliances just look like they are waiting to be replaced. I like white appliances but the kitchen I'm working on is in a 50's row house and we are pushing the retro by doing a two tone composition vinyl tile floor, mixed cabinetry, open shelves and chunky hardware. Quirky not slick. Smilingjudy's fridge is very contemoporary and her only white appliance which is probably why it works with the more traditional white cabinetry (fridge and cabinetry have very different finishes as well) and those gorgeous Richlite countertops (very matte and just slightly mottled - quite different from a traditional granite). Probably not much help without pics, sorry.

Greetings, hope you can provide some advise. My current appliances are bisque with some black in them, oak kitchen cabinets, and light tan (looks like marble)porcelain floors. I want to do a dark countertop on the cabinets (not sure if I am gonna do granite or something else). I have slab of black marble that hubby got for the nook area. We can't afford black marble countertops. Someone at work is getting rid of their ubatuba countertop at a very very low price (not sure how it would look with the appliance selection and black marble) I am going for a vintage type kitchen (subway tile, schoolhouse light fixtures, oak cabs, eastlake hardware). This is in keeping with the arts & crafts (a touch of victorian) of the house. The problem is I can't decide on appliances since that will play a role in the countertop we end up choosing. I was thinking of getting an all white vintage stove. But should the d/w and frig be white or SS? Will ubatuba look ok with the white stove? I know it looks good with SS based on other pics I've seen. My mom would be willing to give me her vintage stove which is white and the top of it is all black. But then do I get the d/w and frig white, black or SS? Another option is get new SS or black appliances and dithc the vintage stove ;o). I haven't been sleeping these nights just thinking about it. Does anyone have a vintage stove? Any pics to share. Hopefully they'll inspire me. Oh, me and DH will be doing most of the work ourselves, so it may be a while before we get finished. Your thoughts are greatly apppreciated.
