Range hood for tall person???
Comments (9)I'm 6'3", and we put a 42" wide 27" deep 900 cfm Wolf hood over our Wolf rangetop. I installed it the lowest I could stand to make sure I captured all of the smoke and grease that wok cooking on that machine would create. We have a great room kitchen and were concerned that smoke and grease would get into the grand piano and furniture nearby. It's mounted at 28" over the rangetop surface. It's at eye level for me, but I have no problem cooking on the front burners without stooping, and I can easily reach the rear burners. And after seeing how much grease I can kick up with normal wok and sauteeing on the 16K btu burners, I'm really glad I mounted it that low. The baffle filters are quite loaded with grease and I have to put them thru the dishwasher every month or so. I also suggest mocking it up with cardboard and tape. Comments (9)Another vote for the Wolf, but in the all-gas version. I have a friend who is a professional chef at a high-end french restaurant in New York. He went to cooking school in Switzerland and apprenticed in France. For his own apt. he bought an AG range which he said he prefers over the dual fuel. He believes everything comes out better with gas, even baked goods. I myself cannot see spending an upcharge for the dual fuel; it just doesn't seem like a good use of money when there are so many others things in the kitchen to spend money on LOL! Just MHO of course. As to the sealed vs. open burners, I think the Wolf AG is a good compromise with its semi-open burners. My AG range has sealed burners and there is always a little 1/8" brown ring around the burners that I cannot get off, even with a razor blade. Others have reported the same thing. My "next" range will have open burners, although who knows when that will be. Comments (20)I hadn't seen this thread when it appeared in Oct. I actually find it kinda odd. The OP has never posted again. Maybe it was indeed spam? Either way, I have really found the original Range Hood FAQ very helpful, and have emailed the link to friends cause it's such a good summary. I don't think the OP has added anything helpful to the hood FAQ, and his additions might confuse someone new to the Appliances Forum, or someone struggling with hood choices (the hardest choice for me in my kitchen!). As others have pointed out, it's odd he chose a 36" hood for a 48" range. Odd that he doesn't mention Wolf hoods in his discussion of high-end hoods, even though that's the range brand he chose. Why does he say baffles are not standard in high-end hoods - that's incorrect. And indeed, despite his contention, the greater component of noise in a hood is the airflow. You can have two identical hoods in two homes - the home with the problematic ductwork (i.e. more bends, longer, or narrower) will be noisier despite the identical motors. I think the Futuro hoods are a good brand, judging by what others have enthusiastically written on the Gardenweb about them. But I hope that people looking for helpful info on hoods in general will look at the original Hood FAQ rather than the OP's additions....See MoreAnyone personal experiences with Thermador Range?
Comments (15)Madiline616, I listed Thermadore at the bottom along with Viking and Dacor as a reply to an earlier post by you, hence my frustration. You know there is a little window at the bottom of the first page where you can type in the brand of appliance you are considering and it will bring up all the previous posts about the brand as most of these questions have already been asked. In your web browser you can be more specific, like problems with Viking range etc. Keep in mind that not every manufacturer makes every appliance well. Viking has had problems with their ranges, while their other products are good. Elux has problems with refridgerators, but people love their induction cooktops and wall ovens. Kitchen Aid makes a nice fridge, but some people have issues with where the vents are located on their dishwashers, and their wall ovens have control board issues. Use the window first and then if you can't find an answer, create a new post. Oh, by the way I also have the CC which I am overall happy with, and I was lucky enough to have a local dealer as I live in the Minneapolis StPaul area, but I would have bought the CC sight unseen. I still think the Bluestar is a nice range too, and unlike Emilner I kind of like the more industrial look. sorry again for my frustration....See Moreplllog
