I'm a little late but I'd like to add, tada, Crab Spread 8 oz. cream cheese 1 can crabmeat, drained and sorted bottle of chili sauce or seafood sauce, the red stuff, like Red Gold, Heinz, etc Mush the cream cheese and crabmeat together. Pack the mixture into a tupperware container, such as a bowl, or loaf shape. Or just shape it into a loafy mound. Dump the chili sauce and garnish with crackers. Laugh, but it's good. Oh yeah, you can add scallions, or other stuff to doctor it up. That strawberry salsa sounds like the beginning of something pretty good. Perhaps add some chopped onion, small touch of balsamic. Tupperware was out of my financial reality. I splurged on a couple of nice and well made things, but for the most part, it was too expensive for me. I loved my old orange juice container where I used to reconstitute frozen o.j., just add water, cover and shake. Used it every day as the only juice we drank was orange.

I don't have a pic, but... I have one 18-inch-wide deep drawer in my kitchen that is dedicated to Tupperware type stuff. And I fill it w/ rectangular Glad disposable containers in 2 smallish sizes and 1 big size. I like them bcs they NEST so closely. I reuse them until they get disgusting or lost, and then buy more. I also put in the kids' lunch containers; that's only 2. And the rectangular containers the dumplings come in from the Chinese food place. We picked one size to keep, and a limit--5, I think. No more are allowed to etnter. Sometimes DH forgets and puts a round one in (I thought it would be useful); I make a fuss and toss it. So lately he hasn't. I think he sees the usefulness of these limited sizes. Under them are the larger rectangular ones I use for taking cookies to work/school/church/whatever. No other containers are allowed to enter the house. I do use all the ones that are in there--not all the time, but I often find myself at the bottom of a stack. The lids sit under the appropriate stack. It does take two hands, but, it works like this: lift stack w/ one hand, take top lid & bottom container w/ other hand, replace stack. And it's one drawer. And bcs it's a drawer, nothing falls over, and I can reach the stuff way in the back. I *did* put a P-touch label on the side of the drawer to tell DH NOT to put any drinks containers in there; we used to keep them all together, but the drinks containers are just too much. Then, DH got the bright idea of weeding them out, so that's good!

I have what seems to be way too many plastics, and since my move, I've been good about only keeping 1 lid for each bottom, but it's still overwhelming! I was planning on buying the rubbermaid set that saharag spoke of but decided the containers were too small or not the right shape for me. I do like the look of the rubbermaid premier containers that raehelen links to. Do they all take the same lid? Unfortunately I need to keep disposables on hand for leftovers that go home with my kids. I also freeze big batches of tomato sauce, soups and other things, so I need a supply of decent quality stacking ones. For most of these I use chinese soup containers. As I write the above list, I see why I can't keep my plastics drawer neat--there's just too d*** many but I need them all! I think I should try to only keep the ones I use frequently and for DH to take for work lunches. I can try to find a home for the rest elsewhere.

I hadn't really remembered yet because of the kind of cooking I've been doing (and not) since I've been back in the kitchen, but I've banished most of the Tupperware and other heavy containers, with their baskets of lids, to the back of the cupboard over the Advantium (no picture forthcoming). The disposables are as safe (chemically) and are see through, and easier to deal with. The long flat ones are in an upper because the drawer won't hold them. The drawer is overfull right now because I didn't get to make soup or anything during the remodel. The basket is clear, so you can't really see it. There's a handful of little round lids wedged between the basket and the containers, and others, in the front, on top of the little bowls. This will change as they get filled and frozen. The organization, baskets, etc., are the same as in the old kitchen where I had lower cupboards with fixed shelves. I would just pull out the stack of containers I needed and choose one, then pull out the associated basket of lids. No lazy teenagers, but my put things in the right place challenged housekeeper didn't have any problem with this system, other than putting lids in backwards so that they didn't line up nicely (i.e, so they took more space).
