I bought the circle scissors and can I just say I LOVE THEM! I have been cutting my circles out by hand with templates all this time, and finally broke down and bought one at Wal-Mart.

THey are easy to use and I love the fact that you can put the disc right over the photo and see exactly where you are cutting and how big the circle will be!

Could you explain exactly how it works?

Is this the roundish see thru plastic circle cutter or something else? I'm only aware of 2 circle cutters available (other than templates). Also, they just came out with a new circle ruler that make 120 different circles but I don't think it cuts, just measures. Its' about the size of a salad plate but I'm not sure how it works. Any one have this one?

I was also a 'template' user as I wasn't fussy about the results I got when using any of the other circle cutters on the market. (I was lucky because my local scrapbook store allows members to go in and use their supplies). Anyway ... I recently purchased the 'Circle Scissor'. It is "AWESOME". It closely resembles the 'Circle Ruler' but takes it one step further. It is a clear rotating disk which uses a rotating pen blade to cut at the same time. You can cut up to 125 circles from 1" to 6" and is soooo easy. I LOVE IT !!! I would definitely make sure I have a cutting mat under it though. It is made by EK Success.

Ok so I'm at the price cropper site and i'm looking at this circle scissor thing - I'm a bit confused. Someone please clarify how this thing works. Here's how it looks to me -- am i even close? I think you put the blade in one of the tiny holes and spin it around the picture, cutting as you go. Is that right? How are the blades replaced? Are they hard to find? I'm thinking that for $15, it's better than ordering the old CM circle cutter over ebay (which is what I was planning on doing, since I HATE their new circle cutter).

I'm just so nervous about buying something that I've never used like this because if I hate it, I can't return it!! Thanks for any input...

Ok, I'll try to explain how it works. Basically it is like Denise said...it's made by EK Success and it does look a lot like the circle ruler.
Basically it comes with the cutting mat (at least mine did) and a pen blade knife that looks exactly like a mini exacto knife. To use it you tape your photo to the cutting mat to prevent it from moving, line up the circle over where you want the circle to be cut (I usually rotate the disc around so I can see exactly where it's going to cut before I cut it) and then you put the blade into the hole on the circle matching the size of the circle, hold the disk steady, and rotate the blade around.

The big key to this is to be gentle. I found that a lot of the original problems I was having trying to use this were because I was pushing too hard. The blade of the pen knife is VERY sharp...it cuts through cardstock without pushing. The other problem with pushing too hard is that the circle disk will slide on you if you push too hard.

My suggestion is to practice with it on some scraps until you get a feel for how hard to press and how to keep things still. I really love this tool...I have heard rumors that they will be making an oval cutter like it and if they do, I'll be right there to buy it.

I hope that helps in figuring out how to use it. Definitely use a cutting mat with it if yours doesn't come with one, and just be gentle. It really works well...at least I think so.

I have the old CM circle cutter, the one with the post thingy that you have to hold on to, and then rotate the arm with the blade around to cut the circle. I HATE that one!! I was thinking of getting the new circle cutter by CM. So glad to see your post, ... can you tell me what it is that you don't like about the new one? Thanks!!

Becky, thanks for the lesson. I'll have to think about this - it certainly sounds easy.

Mar, what I hate about the new CM circle/oval cutter is that I find it's difficult to maneuver (sp?) around the circle template. Personally, I think it's very awkward to use. You have to hold this tiny little blade thing in your hand while trying to make a circle. Yeah, right.

Also, I don't like how they've designed the template (the thing with all the circles on it to see the different sizes you can make) and how it then gets transferred to the actually glass piece. I never ever have gotten the glass guide to be exactly where I had the template. It just doesn't work.

Finally, I find the blade leaves a small "lip" on the edge of the picture. It just doesn't seem smooth. Someone suggested to me that I might be pressing too hard and that's why that lip is happening, but when I tried it without pressing as hard, it didn't go through the picture and I ended up having to use scissors.

I don't know - maybe I just suck at it. :) I loved the old one - I could cut circles in no time.

Oh - one more thing I don't like about it - I like to put a small matting behind my circles and ovals and you can't get a small enough difference in sizes with this new cutter. For instance, when I did a "Cute as a Button" page, all of Katherines pictures were circles with hot pink matting behind. I don't think any of the mattings were more than 1/4". With this cutter, you can't get that close in size differences and the mattings would have been too big. Rumor has it they're coming out with a 3rd blade that will handle that, but I like the diversity of the old system where I determine how big every circle will be.

That's just my jumbled opinion of the whole thing. :)
