Fiskars circle cutter

Well, ladies, I've looked through the old messages and there's a lot of talk about oval cutters and new circle scissors, but I can't find anything about the Fiskars circle cutter. Anybody have it? Do you like it? Is there one you like better? I've seen one that is a clear, flat disc and is supposed to make numerous sizes of circles (forget who makes it) but it was more expensive.

I'd been wanting a circle cutter and have been looking around, but was reluctant to spend $15-35, so when it was on sale at Michaels for $10, I broke down and bought it. I haven't opened it yet because I'm anxious to hear what you all have to say about it. If it's a unanimous "hate it" I'll take it back and save up for a more expensive one. My experience has been the more expensive it is, the better the quality and ease of use, but there are always exceptions to that. What's your favorite circle cutting system?

Dear Sarah,
I have the circle cutter and after a few tries I got better at it, but I must say I rarely use it. I am going to try and make some mats with it soon though. I have heard (I think this is right, please correct me if it's not true) that it works best on a piece of glass, but I don't have one so I use the self healing mats. Penny

If you have the one I'm thinking of (clear plastic, long handle you hold and another spins to make the circle), I do like that one, my mom has it and it works pretty smoothly. I have found that most cutters work better on glass (I have a glass cutting board) I don't have a circle cutter--want to get one!--but do have the Fiskars oval and don't really like it. I also have a doodle cutter...works good with strong templates and on a glass cutting board. It takes alot of practice, but works better than scissors; especially for making fun shapes and it's very compact! I think as part of Natl Scrapbook Day, I may end up getting the CM cutting system (circles/ovals) I used it at a party once and my pics looked so much nicer than when using scissors. That's a good tip, Izzy, but actually it was the narrow setting that I started out on! I was about to give up, then I tried the wider setting and it worked fine. Maybe I will just have to always make wide ovals. :) Joelle, I got mine at Wal-Mart for $17.96. I have heard that they have them at Michael's, and they are probably available at most places that sell Fiskars products. The blades are not the same ones that are used in the Fiskars circle cutter. At Wal-mart here, the replacement blades are $3.96 and come two in a package.

Thank you for all the info. I purchased the Creative Memories Cutting System with oval today. I haven't used it but I'll start in this weekend. I found a consultant on the Creative Memories website for my area. Very nice woman and helpful. The cost was $38.00 plus tax. She left me a catalog for other interests I might have. She asked if I was interested in classes, etc. and at this time I'm not. She was fine with that. Good experience. Can't wait to try my new tools.

A few of my favorites are; Fiskars personal trimmer, corner rounder, tape runner, Fiskars circle cutter, deckle scissors and the new punch press thing, I forgot who makes it, but it's great especially for the border punches that are so hard to punch. I also like the stickers by 'Me and my Big Ideas' their really nice and come on the large sheets. I hate the Fiskars oval cutter! I did get the CM oval cutting system as a gift and I love it!

I saw today at Michael's (don't know if you have this store in your area) some circle and oval plates, they weren't very high priced either. They were located on aisles around where the scrapbook items are found. ~Lynn~

I recently sold my fiskars circle cutter on Jangle. I never really liked using it. I did use the CM circle and oval cutting system and I loved it so much that I saved up the money and bought it. It sure is alot easier to use for me than the fiskar one. But I heard of others who really like the fiskars circle cutter. Good luck!

I have the fiskars circle cutter and I love it. I never tried another one, so I can't compar, but This one seems to me good. I use it with a self healing mat, and no problem. I began to scrapbook an year ago, and it was one of my very first purchases. and I use it a lot. My only problem now in France, is to find replacement blades!
I plan to buy the oval one (next w-e,my husband flies to Atlanta, and I'll give him a list of stuff to bring back to France :o), and hope to use it as much as the circle one!

I love the CM cutting system. With the new "cutter" that's now available, you can easily cut picture and 2 circles/ovals and double mat it!! I'm using my CMC's system at her workshops until I save up enough to get my own. It's been ordered!!!

I have the Fiskars circle cutter the clear plastic/orange but you use it on a self healing mat and not glass. I have the oval cutter and hate it, I did break down and buy the CM oval cutting system (the new one) and it's great!!!! I may just have to get the circle cutter from them too.

I have both the oval cutter and the circle cutter by Fiskars. The circle cutter is very easy to use. The oval cutter takes some effort and that must be why people don't like it, but I don't think it is a big deal to use. I use them both a lot--the replacement blades are expensive, but readily available in hobby stores.

I went to the scrapbook one in Columbia and i was going to get one of the oval are the cirle cutter and the woman there showed me those two and she shoewd me this new one and it is a pc coluzzle cutting system and then you can buy the cutting system nested template but thery did'nt have them she said that michael's had
them and the other thing too that they don't have it so i want and got it. It coast 20.00.
She showed me how to do that one to and it looked easy i hope that she was right.

I too, have heard TONS of praise over the coluzzle system on other scrapbook forums. They are supposed to have letter templates and paper doll templates to use for that system too. I am seriously condsidering getting it myself the next time I brave drivng in Chatt. Penny
