don't give up on it yet. yes, the valances and other soft touches will "soften" the look of the mirror as well, and you can maybe work it further by draping something on the mirror itself or adding a little console table or something with maybe a flower arrangement, or add a small table with a flowing skirt, as well as perhaps an area rug or runner in front of it. It will take the severe look of the stand alone mirror and sort of soften the sharp lines.
It is not shocking, just has a little "unfinished" look at the moment. Take some time to get used to it and explore the possibilities. I think it is a nice addition to the room!

If you" really, really, really" want a large mirror I don't think you should return it! I do wonder tho if it would look better on the slanted wall where you have the 6 prints. It might reflect the room better from there.

I agree that valances will soften the look of the room. I wouldn't go so far as to drape anything on the mirror itself as your style seems to be more edited. IMO the room could use more color, pattern, or texture tho.

If, after making some changes you still think it doesn't work in this room I think it certainly could work in your small piano room.

Hope you have secured it to the wall even tho it is leaning. Large mirrors are very heavy.

To me, that mirror doesn't enhance the look of the room. Moving the TV onto the wall is not going to make a difference in how the mirror looks. Nor will window valances.

I like the look of large mirrors, but not that mirror on that wall. It is reflecting the back of a sofa.

I think you need more in the room. It is pretty edited. here is a link to the Houzz site. There are a lot of pics of leaning wall mirrors. Hope you can get some ideas from there. In general mirrors should reflect something special...architectural features or light or art...something.

I think part of the problem is that the placement of the mirror doesn't work because it reflects the television and the back of the sofa.

Really like the mirror but I would put it on the slanted wall where you have the six pictures. I would put the six pictures on the wall where the mirror is now and get a table...long and harrow....under it. I would get a square or round table with a lamp on it at the end of the couch (nearest the dining room table), and some colorful pillows for your upholstered furniture. A floor lamp in the corner between the TV and chair would give you more light. I am not a valance person, so I would have draperies on the windows to soften everything. Also would it help to turn your dining room table the other way?

It appears that the sofa is almost pushed up against the wall with the six pictures. If so, the mirror won't work there. I agree about turning the dining table the other way. It would help if we could get another perspective of the room.

DH moved it into my piano room for me. This is a study where he wants to put a baby grand piano for me. What do you guys think about the mirror in this room? The chair is very old. I know it sounds silly but I actually lost sleep over this last night. It is the largest and most odd impulse buy I have ever made! But I really love the look of these mirrors.

I will be following this thread closely. Just bought a large floor mirror as well. I think I've decided on spot in the master bedroom for it. I moved it a few times before I found a spot so keep playing with it.

I like it much better in the piano room.
