It IS amazing. I wonder why when I put caps in my subjects lately, that they show on the preview, but not in the final post. Makes me sad. :-(

What incredible finds and at such a great price!!! The detailing on the hutch is wonderful and I hope it will work well on your entry porch. If not, will you need to sell it after you restore it or can you store it until another space in your home opens up?
Love the free chairs, too. The bow detail on the back supports is something I've never seen before. So, what are your plans for them????

I don't think I could sell it, Lynn; I like it too much and it was SUCH a bargain.

Someone here wrote recently that the better neighborhoods are where to shop for things on CL, as the sellers don't really need the money. This was definitely the case here. The hutch and the chairs were the only things in the newly built garage, which was stunning, with hand-cut singles done in a wavy pattern in the front from the door tops to the peak. My friend is a carpenter and he asked me if I had any idea how time consuming that work is. She just doesn't use this antique pine style any more.

The shop where she bought it is very expensive. I have not been able to find one like it online, but did find the German 1880's pine hutch linked below, for $3500.00. NOT that she paid that for it, but when I look at CL and see the things that $100 will buy...well, this one one item I just saw, below. I'll find a spot for the hutch somewhere, even if it doesn't work in my little porch.

(Grunderzeit is the period 1871 - 1873 when many industrial firms were founded in Germany.)

I think I'm still (happily) in shock. I seem to have been the only one who inquired, too. She did have the shop that it came from in the ad title, which should have drawn people in.

Her description was 'Two piece hutch. 74" high, 46" wide. Purchased in Kennebunk. Recent home renovation and no room for it.'

It's actually 85" inches tall, and SO wonderful! :-)

I had some china that I tried to sell before my move. I took them to Cherished Possessions and was told "can't take them, dishes don't sell anymore." Posted them on CL and sure enough not one response (and I was practically giving them away). By extension, I wonder if hutches, generally speaking, don't sell easily anymore either. But I can't imagine anyone passing that one up if he/she has the space for it....

There are a LOT of hutches on CL, and most cost more than this one. I will be thanking my lucky stars for a LONG time that I ended up being the lucky person to get it.

Oh LUCKY you! Count me as another lover of antique pine.... I worked in Ogunquit one summer between my junior and senior years of college. What a great experience. Last time I was there (three years ago), I barely recognized the place.

You got an amazing deal! I love antique pine too. Around my parts (just outside of DC) that would be close to $1,000 on craigslist. I can't wait to see it filled up.

Just beautiful!!! We lived in Germany in the late 80's and I scored many antique pine pieces, one very similar to yours. I still adore all of them to this day but the china hutch is probably my favorite; my heart still beats a little faster when I look at it:). I hope you'll enjoy yours as much!

My friend and I just brought it into my little entry porch. It DOES fit, but it's amazing how much bigger it seems in a smaller space! It can't stay there, as it's just too massive. The bottom part is almost at chest height on me! I will enjoy it there for a few days, and wax and clean it. Don't laugh, but here are two pics I just took of it in the porch. At least you can see it in a better light!

You may have to build a new room just to showcase it. It deserves it! Oh, I'm in love!

It's just charming and such a good buy. The real miracle of course, is that no one has painted it shabby chic!

Well, I have a Hoosier cupboard in my dining room, in a recessed area where the former owners had a big china cabinet; maybe it'll end up in there. I'd even put it in my bedroom or the guest bedroom, but I want to be able to glance at it any time, and have it on the first floor in view.

It's a dilemma, but a great one to have. I need a bigger house for my antique finds! This one is so special that I find myself smiling just thinking about it.

Dogs, you sure can find 'em!! What an awesome piece of furniture~I would have jumped on it too! I don't have any pine and have never particularly liked it, but your hutch certainly sways me the other direction. I think I could build a room around it. And the chairs are so damn cute! I've never seen any with a bow carved in the back~one would be cute in a bedroom. Will you be doing anything to them? Cushions? You scored, big time! ;o)!

Scrubbed pine is my absolute favorite! We have a Dutch secretary in the MBR and DS2 has an English dresser (the kitchen kind) in his BR....the color is wonderful and --- I think--- goes equally well with fancy or casual. Great score--- but I expect nothing less from you now, My3dogs! You have a reputation to live up to now, you know :/)

Patty, you are missing out on old waxed pine! It is one of my favs, and always has been. I'm actually getting used to it in that tiny porch, so it'll stay there til I can put it in another spot.

I forgot to mention above that she gave me FOUR of those ladder back chairs. I need to set them aside for a while as I have orders to complete, but I can see them in cute checked or other fabric tie-on seat cushions, and a bit of a refreshed paint job. I couldn't NOT take them, as I couldn't see perfect Made in USA chairs going to the dump!

Kswl, could I see a piece of your secretary? Someone in the antique mall where I have a space has a beautiful one for $265. It's a very light wood and the bottom drawers are bowed. Sound anything like yours? TIA

How did you clean it and what wax did you use? It has such a lovely glow and patina.

fripper, I really hadn't done anything when I took those pics of it in my porch, other than to wipe off dust with a damp paper towel.

Those pics of it inside the porch were taken at dusk, which probably makes a difference in the way the color appears.

I have since put a bit of Butcher's wax on the top surface of the lower part, and that is all I'll do to the whole thing. That patina just comes with its age. I'm actually growing used to it in the porch, and I like it with the wallpaper in there. It may stay there for a little while.

I THINK I may have captured some of the wavy glass in this pic. If you look at the left pane of glass, it's reflecting my garage trim outside. See how the off-white appears distorted? IRL, the clapboards do too, but I just can't capture it , being a very novice photographer. There are a few tiny bubbles in the glass, too.
