what's the consensus on pro style faucets?

Hi folks,

I'm looking at the Blanco Culina faucet (http://bit.ly/JYq31L) and I was wondering what people thought of this style of faucet. I love the idea of the wide reach without having a retractable nozzle.

Also, what do people think of Blanco faucets? For the $500 that this faucet costs, it better be well made!

Consensus here over the past 5 years has gone to pull-down style faucets with sprayer as #1.

Blanco is a mid-level faucet brand though it hasn't been one of the top choices, as you can see on the link. The touch faucets from Delta and Brizo also get high marks.

Pro-style or high arc faucets vary a great deal so it can be difficult to get generalizations on those.

I have the Blanco Culina and I am really close to loving it. All in all I am very impressed with its build quality. My oly gripe is not the faucets fault- I just wish it had a 2" longer reach when set in its holder. It doesn't quite come far enough into the sink for me. Now, I do have a huge sink- a 45" Kohler stages, And the base cabinet design forced me to mount it about an inch further back than I would have liked. You sometimes need to be careful because if you are washing your hands close to the faucet you can dismount the head for its magnetic clip.

As far as looks and performance, it does not disappoint. I paid a less than what you mentioned, closer to $400, but it was worth it.

I agree with others who say you don't need to match the stainless of your appliances or your sink. IMHO, a stainless or brushed nickel faucet is a more contemporary look, a polished nickel faucet is more traditional--you'll particularly see polished nickel faucets in the bridge style to emphasize the traditional look. Also, the brushed and stainless finishes won't show fingerprints the way polished finishes would. I myself chose polished chrome for my Grohe Ladylux Plus faucet for the following reasons: (a) my kitchen decor is "transitional", i.e. neither contemporary nor traditional, and chrome is also transitional--it can go in either style, (b) I really like the shine of polished chrome, so bright and cheerful, which I prefer to the matte look of stainless or brushed nickel, just my personal taste, and (c) polished chrome was so much cheaper. So it cost less, and I liked the look, so not much of a decision for me.

edlakin, a quick Google search shows lots of faucets, including popular ones like the Grohe Ladylux, in a "pro" level or style. Looks like it means a faucet of a style and quality that one might find in a kitchen used by a "pro"-fessional chef. I've included a link to a Blanco that is referred to as "semi-pro", which I take to mean a level just a tad short of "pro". lulu, my faucet is a Blanco. I don't know where it was made, but I've been very happy with it. I had an occasion right after it was installed to need their customer service, and they came through like a champ. You know I am a fan of the wall mount! Had three in last kitchen and will have 4 in this kitchen. Definitely make sure you get a faucet spout long enough for your comfort so you don't have to bend. I think a 10-11" reach is good. The faucets usually have escutcheons that make the faucet project out a bit more. Chicago Faucets do have jointed spouts that can be extended and seem very convenient. They are affordable, too. The wall mounts are often very expensive. I always have used Kingston Brass and think the quality is very very good. No problems and you can call customer service and get information from them very easily! I don't know if you are going with an RO filter, but I was sad to find out there are no RO wall mounted faucets. Well, not that I could find. Again, bathtubs and pot fillers have wall plumbing. Not a big deal. I once read that chrome is a more durable faucet finish, and it also happens to be the cheapest! Years ago, chrome plated faucets became more favored and replaced nickel plated faucets because nickel plate wore off so quickly. I have to admit that despite all the choices in faucet finishes, I still like chrome. It is timeless, clean looking, and sparkly. On the other hand, a metal with a blue tint like chrome is not always the best choice for the sink and/or counter top color or design scheme. For instance, Tuscan or French Country. I ordered, but have not yet installed the Brizo Floriano faucet in stainless steel. I saw the faucet on the program "I Want That," and did want it! I was conflicted about stainless steel, chrome(love the sparkle), or brushed nickel. The deciding factors were that stainless steel or brushed nickel looked best with a stainless steel sink, and brushed nickel was not offered with the Brizo Floriano faucet. The decision for stainless steel became easier. I actually hunted, and hunted, and hunted for a deep, wide single bowl stainless steel sink that would allow me enough room to use that honking huge, organic looking faucet. I don't think people usually pick out their faucet before their sink. Couldn't believe how much my husband wanted me to find a way to use that faucet. Chrome and stainless steel finishes will show more "stuff" than brushed nickel, and brushed nickel has a warmer undertone. So, if the decision is between stainless steel and chrome, and they both require about the same amount of maintenance; I guess you have to go with which finish you find most visually appealing for your individual kitchen.

We had a Blanco Master Gourmet faucet with pull-down sprayer. We hated it. The heavily restricted water flow was pitiful. The pull down sprayer's output was so low that you couldn't even use it to spray the debris from the sink into the drain. Totally useless. We replaced it with a KWC Systema pull down, which blew it away for performance (although in fairness, we are already having a problem with a malfunctioning valve cartridge, despite the well over $1K price). Still, the Blanco was a huge disappointment.

My unit has plenty of pressure. So much so that you need to be careful with the sprayer because it will splash. I'm not sure why you had such restricted water pressure...

I just saw blancos new line up of faucets today at a trade show. Gorgeous and well made. I liked the buttons and the locking spray. They have a life time warranty and the head can be screwed off and sent to customer service for replacement. (This is true of many faucets) I was told that the replacements are sent immediately. The faucets were hooked up and I thought the water pressure was fine.
I was also extremely impressed with Brizo.
I spoke to many of the major faucet manufacturers today and most agreed that consumers are preferring pull down. Colored faucets will also be coming out - kohler is making a few- you can check their website. They are also making limited edition colored enamel sinks in various colors. Blanco is making faucets to match their silgranite sinks.

I have a Danze, and like it. It had the longest spout reach of any faucets I could find. That's the main reason I got it. It has great flow/water pressure. As Emilner said, the splash can be excessive if I'm not careful. If I had to say anything negative, it would be that when using the sprayer, it's very stiff. It's not pliable as a pull out sprayer. I thought it would loosen up a bit, but it doesn't.
