Bath towels, shower curtain and bath mat

Our master bath remodel is in progress and I'd like to get the bath mat, shower curtain and towels soon.

It will be a tiny white and grey bathroom with a vintage vibe--chrome fixtures, white cast iron tub, white subway tile with grey pencil liner, grey marmoleum floor, white vanity with soapstone top. I am planning to use Benj. Moore Angelica for the paint. It is a pale grey-lavender color.

So, what color(s) would you go with for the accessories? Grey, lavender, purple, green, white? What shade?

I am thinking white for the shower curtain and either medium grey or purple for the bath mat and towels?

Also, I would like to try one of those waterproof fabric shower curtains that don't require a liner. Has anyone done this? How well does it work?

And I feel like I still haven't figured out bathmats. I got what I thought was a nice one from Garnet Hill, but it was cotton and it just got all flat and matted down within a day or so of being washed. But the fake fiber ones (what are they acrylic) don't seem to feel all that nice. Any thoughts on bath mats?

And I am thinking maybe thinner towels that dry quickly? We live near the coast and I am thinking of using hooks for the bath towels, so quick drying seems like a good idea. Suggestions?

FYI, RH extended their F&F sale another day (thru today?). Included in the 20% off sale, are towels, bathmats,.....

I use their towels and bathmat in the MB ("my" bathroom--DH uses our hall bath). Mine are white (bathroom has white fixtures and wall tile, pale blue walls, and a black-stained vanity, floor tile, and window shade). I use AHA products, including face wash, and those are no-no's with the dyes used for their colored towels. No problems with the white towels. I have the reversible (cotton) bath mat. It remains thick and plush for a long time (I have three sets of towels/mats that get rotated after each wash, which is done weekly).

you might try bamboo towels; also Martha Stewart has some "quick drying" towels I quite like (Macy's)

you seem to have a good grasp of the possible colors -- anyone of those options would be good, and you can always change them after a while

After slipping on a plastic mat with suction cups that didn't grip the tub, I bought non-slip shower treads on Amazon. They're made by a company called SlipX Solutions. Several posters on GW recommended them. They're fabulous: clear, not too visible, clean easily, and best of all provide excellent traction. I highly recommend them.

Not to be rude...but just my opinion...that plastic liner, it's not disapearing to my eyes. Its screaming...cheap plastic. (I hate those things with a passion...can you tell?) You can buy a very inexpensive one that is water proof to be used as a liner. It's not stiff, and actually would look better than what you have now without doing anything else. I would then add a white cotton or waffle cloth on the outside. I think of showers like I do windows. I wouldnt put plastic over the window and hope you don't see it. Instead, if I had say plastic blinds, I'd cover those with a nice fabric treatment so you only see the blinds when closed, but mostly they're hidden under nice fabric.

I too really wanted to avoid a shower curtain in the tub-shower combination we were making for our kids' bathroom. I didn't want the glass all the way across, but I too was concerned about water leaking out, and easy access in and out of the tub. We compromised by installing a stationary panel connected to a hinged panel, which doesn't go all the way to the other end. See the photo below. It works great, with no water leaking onto the floor even with three kids, and visually it's the best, IMHO! We heard about shower screens from people who had loved them in their European travels. I went to several shower door retailers, and several of them were clueless. Some said it couldn't be done. My contractor wasn't too familiar with them either. I found a picture in a home magazine of just such a combination -- in fact, we used the same tub they did, a Kohler Tea for Two, and then copied exactly what they had done with their shower screen, which is a fixed panel next to a hinged panel. The tub is 66 inches long, and each of the panels is about 24 inches wide. My husband and I decided on the width of the panels by looking at where the vanity ended, and we thought long and hard about how wide the hinged panel had to be to both prevent water from leaking out while people showered, and yet make it easy to get in and out. This has worked out great. We bought the shower doors through the Expo Design Center. If you have a good one in your area, they will have an extensive display of frameless shower doors/shields. The representative they sent out to measure immediately knew what we wanted, and they installed quickly and precisely. (My husband put a little clear plastic suction thing near the bottom of the door, visible in the pictures) to protect the doors if the kids banged them against the vanity counter. So far no harm has come to them, the doors, I mean!

This one might work. It has browns, taupe, and tinges of green.With a leaf pattern that may not overwhelm. It is semi-sheer, though. If you don't like that, you can put a colored liner behind it. I can't tell if that is a pine bough or a cactus pictured above the toilet but if it is a pine bough, this one could work. If you don't mind the touches of yellow, this taupe one has touches of green, too. If you want to brighten the space, this white curtain with scattered leaves in a subtle green is nice. Those are all on the first page of Wayfair shower curtains when I controlled for the colors brown and green and the patterns floral and flower. There are 27 pages in that category! Feel free to jump in and explore. I got one curtain with barren trees and another with really big rose blooms. I don't like either and would have preferred one with a smaller pattern in my small bathroom, so that is what I chose for you.

For something different, I've read of putting a coat hanger in bathrooms for towels - wet or dry. One could be painted any color one likes. Your color selections sound lovely.

By bath mat, do you mean rug or the mat for the tub? My tub mats and all those I have ever seen are flat. If you mean the rug, I have used reversible cotton ones as well as ones with a rubber-type backing. I just buy mine from BB&B since I tend to replace them after three-five years.

Oh, and all my towels are white. I find I tire of towel colors, but never of white ones.

I had a black and white bathroom once and really enjoyed playing with different colors in my towels. I think you could do the same. What I would probably do would be have a neutral (grey or white) rug for the bathmat, a set of dressy white towels with grey or blue embroidery, a set of purple or raspberry towels and then a fun pattern if I found one. You could also select the plainer towels and the color to be able to mix and match the bath towels and hand towels. Then you have different looks and options.
