Heritage Albums

I would appreciate any advice or direction in this area from those who have done them or are doing them. Also are there any good web sites that offer ideas and suggestions on heritage albums other than to buy their products?????

I am also having a hard time finding 5X7 embossed frames with the center rectangularly cut. They all seem to be oval cut. Any ideas? Thanks!

Dear Suzi,I too, am about to start on my Heritage photos, and I am frankly dreading it. Not that I don't love my older photos, it's just that I treasure them too much to make a mistake on one of them. I would try going to the link at the bottom of this page for a lot of ideas. You will have to sort through them to find ones that are not so commerical, but this is the site I go to when I can't find it elsewhere. As for the photo frames, try calling some of the local pro photo shops in town. They might have and sell you at a reasonable price the frames you are looking for. I found several frames like this. One of them being a champange glass, with the oval of the glass removed so you can insert the photo. CUTE! Great for weddings, proms, etc... I also got a frame with the inside cut into the shape of a cross, it was really pretty too. If they are pricey in your area, you could always buy one and then use it as a template to make others. Penny, one word of advice before cutting your heritage photos... I took all mine to Kinko's and got them color copied. These are the photos I am using in the album. Kinko's uses acid free paper and they are not to fade. I would never cut the original photos of my ancestors. They are too priceless!!!!

Well, it seems I have more "planned" than I've actually done. But here's the scoop on what I've done/am doing. 1. 8x10 size for my mom's 2nd wedding 2. Going Down Under (trip to Australia) 3. Baby's first Year (my dd's baby book) 4. Ds#2--Birth to 5 years (not quite done, as he turns 5 in 5 weeks LOL!) working on my wedding/honeymoon album just decided to do an ABC album with ds#1. He is 7 and we are homeschooling, so this is kinda his project too. I tell you guys, this is an awesome way to use up misc. photos. In the future: I will have a Birth-5 years album for ds#1 and dd. These will be their books to have when they leave home. (Obviously will also do 6-10 yrs, then 11-graduation) I will have my own family album. But when I say "family" I more mean just pics of my kids. Maybe some other family members will make it into the album, if they're lucky LOL. christmas thru the years album The Grandpa Book this will be a 5x7 tribute album for each of the kids, about thier grandpa and great-grandpas who've passed away. Summer and Winter Fun Birthdays This should take me till I'm dead!

These gals have great ideas! I liked Crystal's idea of the coupon thing too! My suggestion would be that the album need not contain photos that the professional photographer takes. That way, you don't need to consult him beforehand or give any kind of list. Just make sure that you and a couple other guests have your own camera and just take lots of snapshots. Then you can give your prints to her and she'll have all the right photos to put in her album. I'm currently working on my wedding album, and it is all photos that were taken by my aunts and dh's aunt. Lots of stuff; our rings, our cakes, our head table, our harpist, signing the register, walking up and down the aisle, the receiving line etc. You get the idea. Then, if the bride wishes, she can add a studio photo or two just to finish off the album. Kelly

Norma, thanks for the great ideas. I have used a lot of black pages (actually mostly black) and some brown. I've used white for background of letters I have included. I have found that I have done my pages much more simply than most. I like to have only one or two pictures on the page so not to take away from the photo(s) itself. I'm not using stickers at all. I found some great embossed frames from scrapbooks.com and it was the only place who had them that I could find. I have a lot of great old documents I have included in the book, as well. I am having so much fun with this project! I encourage anyone with the interest for preserving their heritage with photos and documents to begin such a project. You will be glad you did!!! I have also really enjoyed this particular forum!

What brand of paper or stickers is your favorite?

Hmmm. I really only use solid paper, so brand really doesn't matter to me. As far as stickers, I think I'd have to say Mrs. Grossmans (and it's not even because of CM!!). I always seem to find just the thing I'm looking for with their selection. Although now that I have that Frances Meyer catalog, I'm finding a lot more there too! :) Patti

Go to www.scrapbooks.com for the Keeping Memories Alives online catalogue. They have great embossed frames you can buy individually in colors at great prices. Can also order their catalogue to be sent.

Thanks for the tips girls. I found a great site for Heritage tips. Go to southern splash and check out the tips section. There is a lot of information about heritage albums there.
